    post cardio meal

i lift 3-4 times a week and im the cutting stage now so i also do quite a bit of cardio. on the days that i dont lift, but i do run 2-4 miles... is a post-run protein/carb shake just as beneficial, or even at all, as after a lifting workout?

Yes. Your glycogen stores will be as low after a long run as they would be after a workout. So I think a post-cardio shake is equally beneficial. However, I'd eat a regular meal within an hour or two after, especially if you run in the morning.

Post-run meal would be a good idea(ASAP). Carbs and protein.

Wouldn't it make sense to wait (if one is trying to lose fat) to eat in order to let your body burn more calories, before feeding it?

After you workout, your body goes into a catabolic state. Yes, you would lost weight if you didn't eat right after. But, it's most likely going to be muscle.

No it wouldn't: It isn't like your metabolism just shuts down when you eat and syntekz makes the good point about catabolism.

*** Aren't we talking about cardiovascular activity?
I don't see why a post workout shake or whatever must be taken right after a cardio session.

As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

I like to wait 30-40 min after cardio until I eat.

    i agree with maki-
why is an insulin spike needed.. Most people do this for fat loss. An insulin spike is the exact opposite of what i want.

I eat a regular meal, a few low gi carbs with some protein and fat

lose the simple carbs (sugar) in your shake if you're taking them cause it prevents fat loss, but definately keep the protein shakes!
