The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

My cutting diet (calories from fitday)

I'm in college right now and I have a fairly busy schedule. I don't like to spend my entire day in and out of the cafeteria so I only eat three times per day. I'm just looking to drop some body fat. I'm not interested in bodybuilder either. I'm after a slim, athletic figure. I'm 5'9 and I weigh around 160 lbs right now. I need to drop some body fat so my abs will show through then I'll worry about bulking up a bit afterwards.

    Breakfast:

    3 egg omlette with cheese
    bowl of fruit
    cup of green tea

According to fitday, this breakfast has 550 calories, 35 grams of fat, 26 grams of carbs and 34 grams of protein.

    Lunch:

Mixed greens salad with half chicken breast and no dressing
    Fruit shake with whey isolate

According to fitday, this has 662 calories, 11 grams of fat, 89 grams of carbs and 56 grams of protein.

    Dinner:

    fried chicken breast
half cup each of carrots, broccoli, cauliflower
    half cup mozza cheese

According to fitday, this has 547 calories, 18 grams of fat, 17 grams of carbs and 77 grams of protein.

    Total:

    1759 calories
    65 grams of fat (18%)
    134 grams of carbs (36%)
    167 grams of protein (46%)

Looking back on this now, it seems like the fats might be a little low. I'm just not sure how else I should add fats and take away carbs and proteins. I really like eating a lot of fruit which is where a lot of the carbs are comming from. I like this diet because it is something I can easily manage to do everyday and not get bored of. I would just like some minor tweaks if possible.

Is there any reason to add that stuff? I'm trying to keep my calories under 1800 a day for cutting.

I can't add that very easily. I get all my food from the cafeteria and usually grab the protein shake from the juice bar on my way to class.

20% of calories means nothing. But he appears to be getting over a half a gram per pound LBM, which, while sufficient, may not be satisfying. I usually like my fats a little higher, especially on a cut.

1800 is what I cut on - my feeling is this is rather low for a man your size.

Hey coleman, listen to what they have to say, chances are they're right.

Btw Im about 5'9'' and I weigh 170, so we are pretty close, and after a week on similar calories It was highly advised to raise my cals.

I know you said you dont like to spend lots of time in the cafateria BUT maybe you wont need to. Try and take a snack with you. With me being in school, hard boiled eggs are great, fats and protein and they are pretty good.
    Complication breeds desperation.

I just eyeballed it based on his weight. 5'9" at 160 - he CAN'T be all that fat - surely he has at LEAST 130-140 lbs of LBM on his frame.

"the one" all i really see you ever do in your post is try and criticize the approach of regulars on this forum like built and getfit...if you look at built's avatar...she obviously knows what shes doing....but to the OP i would raise fats a bit...just add some olive oil, PB, nuts, avocados somewhere into that diet...

just b/c i questioned built does not mean i criticized her. i dont think she took it that way either...and if thats all you ever see me do i would like to see another example where a criticism wasnt deserved?

NP the one - I didn't take it as a criticism - I figured you hadn't read where the OP mentioned his weight and height.
