The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

First week of cutting, think I need to reevaluate.

My first week on a cut diet, not too hard, pretty motivated. From what ive read, im expecting to lose a pound if that. I step on my scale and it says that i lost 8 pounds. Now normally I would just say GREAT!, but after reading a lot I know losing weight this fast cant be at all good. I may have gone a little low on my cals, and thats my own fault. My question is should I raise cals so I can still lose weight, but hopefully not lose muscle at the same time. Thx for your time.

weigh yourself at the same time, say youy weight yourself in the morning, next time you weight yourself do it in the morning. bodyweight fluxuates during the day, also some of that 8lbs very well could of been water weight.

It a normal experience in the first week of cutting. Majority comes from water weight while some of it is tissue loss (muscle and fat). After the initial weight loss, true weight loss/fat loss slows down to a more normal state.

Might want to tell me what type of diet you are on. I will do my best to guide you from what I know.

There is an option when you goto your HOME section, to make your profile visable to others. Once you do that, you will get a link that you can paste into the forums (It will be in the Home section as well)

    1. Boost up calories to around 2000 off days and 2200 workout days. Let me know how it goes next week on how much weight you drop.
    2. Try to stick around 1-2lbs weight lose.
    3. Be patient, if you’re looking to drop the weight fast on a crash diet then I recommend reading psmf by Lyle McDonald as you can potentially harm yourself done wrong.
    4. Start a journal.
    5. Lift heavy
    6. Read Built profile make sure you understand what you’re doing.

-Ok, today is sunday and the day is half over, so I will just start with those cals tommorow. I will deffinately let you know how it goes.

-When you say start a journal, do you mean fitday?

-Im trying to lift heavy, and will try to increase weight this week.

-I've read builts posts, and im going off her carb cycling diet.

-One last thing, I've searched on the forums, but didnt find much on "cheat days/meals". Ive read before that these will boost metabolism and jump start fat loss. What do you think about them? Any truth to what I've heard?

No, I meant online journal to track workout and diet (here on wbb). Plus people will be able to drop by and provide motivation with advice.

Cheat days are good as long as it doesn't slow down your progress.

    Got in in there

-Built: I was wondering what type of cheat day you have, do you have a day with a lot of cals or a day with some junk thrown in but keep cals relatively low. Just trying to get a feel for what some people might do.

I have a cheat day once a week, even while cutting. My cheat days i usually eat whatever I want. Since my cheat day usually falls on Sunday (sports), I'm sitting around doing nothing so I only eat one maybe two meals. Doing this I stay right around the right cals. Also I like to throw curve balls at my body so I doesn't get adjusted to it. Keep in mind this is one day a week, the other 6 are 6meals a day, very high density foods. Hope that helps.

My cheat days are all-out benders - usually at least a thousand cals over what I'm dieting on.
I try to make them coincide with my heaviest training day so I get to enjoy both the food and a KILLER workout - sooooo nice to get that big, pumped feeling after cutting for a few weeks.
I have 'em every 2-3 weeks, depending on how well my cut is going.

Cheat day lookin good right about now, hope no one will mind me bringing this back, but its better than a new topic I suppose.

Ok after one week of approximately 2000 cals on rest days and 2200 cals on workout days, heres what happened(kind wierd but ok).

I just moved to grannys house. I have the scale I used before and the scale that I will be using in the future. I weighed myself with both. On the scale I used before, it said I weighed 171(thats what it looked like). And on the scale I will be using, it said I weigh 169(digital scale). So I was wondering what some people think I should do now.

Any advise is would be great.

well, if you're on just a plain old low cal diet two pounds in one week as long as it's measured under the same conditions (time of day, dress...) sounds great.

If you're on a super low carb diet you should have lost more in these first couple of days due to water weight loss.... but all in all at only a week in with two different scales it's too early to tell much of anything.

Let the mirror be your judge anyway. Scales if not used carefully are tricky things.

hmmm, should specified that on monday(day I started these new set of cals) I weighed myself and it said 170 pounds. Thats why I said it was wierd. Maybe lower cals by a hundred on both days .................or just try another week?
