On my non-lifting days I am trying to figure out what kind of cardio to do. If i run on the treadmill for half an hour, lets say, whats the optimum speed to run this at to minimize muscle loss and maximize fat loss.
I have seen many champion the HIIT cause. Whats the best machine to run this on (the elliptical that has no arm swing is my guess). Can HIIT be run on a treadmill? Whats the best duration/rest?
Why do any? You're just starting your cut, right?
What's your diet like? How's your training?
Diet is the best way to lose fat. Even if you exercise it will not help much if you have a bad diet. Cardio is over rated IMO. A solid routine and good diet will be much better in terms of fat loss while minimizing muscle loss.Originally Posted by Mr. D

cardio strengthens the heart, improves endurance, speeds recovery time, allows you to rest less between sets. in short , cardio is good for you.
the number of calories burned is pretty much the same per mile, so go at whatever pace you are comfortable with.
It's good for your heart, but lousy for cutting.
Go for a walk. But rely on diet and heavy lifting for body composition.
WildCard, explain how cardio allows you to rest less between sets?
