The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I think people do do that, yes.

Bulk over winter and cut FOR the summer.

Personally I'm still bulking. I'm still small, my body fat is pretty low and I dont want to cut yet. No point having a 6 pack with not much else to show. I'm just doing a massive bulk until I have a reasonable amount of muscle before i cut.

We're almost exactly the same height/weight/BF% too!

I bulked all throughout last summer. I'm going to cut for this summer, but only because I am starting to get some nasty stretch marks.

This is the reason I think people bulk in the winter and cut in the summer. In many areas of the world, winter is cold and is a time where no one really sees you half naked except your wife or what not. So, it makes sense to bulk during this period, because body fat levels will rise as a result. Then, as long as you didn't let yourself go completely, you should be able to bring the body fat down with a simple 2 - 3 month cut, just in time for May or somewhere around there... At least, that is how I look at it.

If you do cardio do it to cardiovascular exercise, don't use it for a means to lose weight. Up your cals on Cardio days ect.

    <waits for Built...>

I've done limited cardio on this cut thusfar, about 15lbs down. YOu cut through diet not cardio. cardio can be very catabolic and can break down your hard erned muscle. look into HIIT.

Like I said, we are almost identical in our stats. If I were you I'd seriously reconsider that cut... you're not going to have a lot to show for it. Better too keep bulking and get more muscle IMO.

Of course it's up to you and everyone has their own goals

Once I move into the new house i will start cutting. I am using variations WBB1 since nov 05 and went from 172lbs to my current weight of 190lbs @ 5' 7.5". I may take my weight down as far as 180 maybe 175 for cuts. Will take progress pics.

As soon as my doctor says I can start lifting again, I'm definitely going to bulk. I would have no problem bulking all summer and winter (and maybe the summer after ). I'd really like to get from 190 to 230 before cutting down. At 6'4-5" I doubt I'll turn into too much of a fatty if I do that. Personally, I don't like the idea of going back and forth between bulking and cutting all the time.

I'm bulking from now till the end of the second semester (early May), then I'm starting a full on cut for summer to get a six pack. I can't wait to start cutting since this will be my first dedicated cut.

This fact took me forever to grasp; I'm 5'8"; 150lbs and I have trouble getting the 4000 cals I want for my bulk. I'm getting used to it gradually tho.

Well here in Southern California I bulk in the summer because the rest of the year is school where I can show off to the girls.

BTW how does cardio take away from your hard earned muscle? I've never heard of that. I thought people don't do it because it's simply not worth it when you can just as easily eat less calories.

arya202. When you do endurance training (almost interchangable with the popular term "cardio") a lot of the energy for it comes from the body burning muscle for energy. Granted a good portion comes from fat but most of us work very hard for every lb of muscle and don't want cardio taking away our muscle-size gains. Just think about marathon runners... their legs are like sticks.

Edit: And yes a lot of us prefer to lose fat through diet because in general it's easier to keep muscle.

you burn muscle doing cardio because your body naturally loves fat and wants to keep it. It burns muscles to get energy. Fat too, but a lot of muscle. Walk don't run.

I do the (almost) opposite, i intended to bulk till the end of summer and then start cutting again about september. The reason being the surfing season here starts in the autumn so through autumn/winter ill be getting a lot more physical exersise than i get in the flat months over the summer which works well for me when it comes to cutting (you cant compare surfing to marathon running as its much lower intensity and i definatly find it helps with losing fat).

However im still faftter than id like so im gonna continue cutting at the moment till im happier with where im at.
