    Avoiding overtraining

How many times a week is too much to benchpress, including barbells and dumbbells?
I'm trying to get my schedule into check as i am starting to lift tomorrow.
Currently my I have barbell/dumbbell bench pressing in my weekly routine 5 times, is this too much?

Why on earth would you do that? All you need to do is work your chest once a week and you'll see good gains. You're doing more damage than anything else.

You should not bench press more than once a week. You should squat and deadlift and row with all of that free time you now have from not bench pressing 5x a week.

YES 5 times a week for bench press is to much, 5 times a week on your chest is TOO much. Two times a week would be fine.
