i only do them once a week and im starting to think that i am overtraining, the legs and backs are very big muscles with lots of fibres that take longer to heal than smaller muscles. I still feel a little achy even a week later when i go to do deadlifts again, im starting to think maybe i should only do them once every 10 days or so

how about every 10 days then? i usually do em on a tuesday so i could then do them again the following saturday and then again 2 tuesdays later

how about just training legs every tuesday with my normal crappy routine of leg extensions, calf raises and leg press? and then do squats/deads every 10 days?

I wouldnt consider doing deadlifts once a week overtraining. Maxing out or getting real close to it every week is but you can always switch it up and do variations.

I would agree with that....I'm using WBB1 right now and I don't find doing 2x6-8 of deadlifts to be overtraining at all. I am sore for a few days after (sometimes squats on wednesday will remind I deads on monday), but I'm fine by the next week.

I don't feel incredly sore... Its not like I got a aching pains or anything. Today I hit 185 and I think thats my max on DL so i'll stick in the 135s, and 145s for nowfor about a week or two then attempt a max out again?

I used to work out entire body EVERY SINGLE DAY, till a weight training guy told me that isolating my muscles is much better then doing EVERY SINGLE WEIGHT every day. My work out was like 2 1/2 hours long. I thought the more hours you put into it the more youj'd bulk up ever since I took that mans advice as hard as its been i've been gaining more muscle then I ever have. So basically this is what I shoudl do

(not entire work out of course)
Dead lift each week, DON'T MAX OUT EVERY WEEK. Maybe if i'm doing 185 as a max instead do 145 or somthing? And maybe push myself to see how far I could go once every two weeks or so?

Don't even plan to max out every few weeks.... There's no need...

Try a 5x5... That's 5 sets of 5 reps. You'll see big strength gains from that... Pick a weight that you can do the full 5 sets of 5 reps with then bump it up 5lbs the next week.. You should only be testing your 1rm every month or more!

Ok so um I really don't go for 1 rm... My last max out on deadlift (yesterday) was 185 1x6 before this I did 135 2x6 and 145 2x6, I'll simply work out at a lower weight for 5x5 like you said then.
