The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Arm size vs curl strength. Where are you at?

I have 14" arms and do seated curls with decent form with 45lb dumbbells. I say decent cause I did notice myself cheating a little with my last 2 reps last time I did these.

This is also starting out fresh, I can't do the 45's with any kind of form after a good back workout.

So.. I'd have to say for the sake of argument that I curl 40's, cause I don't cheat at all at that.

Oh, I also heard that the average size of a male's arms are 13". Is this true?

(I know my arms are nothing close to large, but it does seem cool to have at least an inch on the average guy.)

mine is kinda off, because of years of football training and concentrating on my triceps they are strong as **** compared to my biceps, my arms are 20 inches and i barbell curl 135 for sets of 5 with an EZ bar and i curl 50 dumbells for sets of 8, which is light weight compared to my triceps

damn i need my biceps to catch up

I'm not concentrating on them at all. I actually train my biceps way less than most parts, since they get pretty hammered on my back days.

I'm just curious what the average size to curl ratio is. (Although I realize that tricep size is the biggest factor in arm size)

Mine are about 16" but I hardly curl anymore. Last I checked I could do 60 lb DB's for about 5 reps.

Like this actually matters, but... cold I'm at 15.5, pumped 16.25...(I've gained over the winter thank god) I only do bi's at the end of my back workout, so after all those weighted pullups, chins, rows, deads etc my arms are pretty much toast. I curl 100 BB for 8 reps and a couple of sets, and 40lbs DB for a couple of sets.

I'll have to try a few sets of just bi's this weekend on a day off and see what I can do.. this thread has me wondering

I can hardly believe that the average GROWN MAN arm is 13". I am pretty small (I weigh 150 lbs at 5'9, with small wrists), I'm not fully developed yet, but my arms are 14". Too bad I can only do 68lbs x 8 (and that's with a barbell)

I haven't done a bicep curl for about a month and a half and my arms are 17.5"

Edit: I just did a couple sets of bicep curls today. I hit 115x8 and then 130x6.

I do 3 sets of 8 atm with 105lb on the Oly straight bar. Most of my arm size is in my triceps though. I hardly do any direct bicep work, i rely on my back days for that.

If you want big arms, concentrate on triceps, and believe it or not hammer curls.

Mine are over 16" right now. I could probably curl 115lbs for a rep, but I haven't included curls in my routine for a looong time.

I CAN believe that 13" is average for guy. Most guys have pretty thin arms.. even overweight people with massive guts and fat legs etc dont put that much on their arms. I heard that a quick way to guess how muscular someone is it to look at their upper arm in comparison to their lower arm.
It works for me.. when I was 130 lbs, my arm was the same width all the way up.

Now i'm 170lbs, my arm is 14" and I curl about 35lbs per hand. It's pretty weak but I dont care though. I want size.. strength is just a nice side-effect
