The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    What got you started

Well what got me started was getting arrested and grounded actually. I had worked out here and there gone to the gym and fooled around. But then one night I got arrested, I smoke weed a lot drank a lot smoked generally a lot. Well I got arrested for supplying aclhol to minors (i'm 16 and was 16 at the time). Well my dad was ticked off when he picked me up out of jail and he grounded me from all of two places outside of school and home. The gym and work. Well we PSCING (permeant change of station (military faimly)) and we were living in a hotel so the gym was basically somthing to do to get out of the house. I began working out, and well I loved it. Ever since I got to germany i've been working out harder then ever

Even though I still drink once in a while (ie maybe every 3 weeks or so at a party or somthing) I don't smoke ANYTHING or any drugs, the gym made me go clean... Thankfully I didn't go down that road too far before I walked back.

What got you started to want to work out?

This is the first time I'm seeing this bit of info. Kudos for being proactive about it.

I started to improve my self-image as well as my outward image. The rest is history.

My marriage tanked. I decided to work on me, and me alone. I read "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People," which stressed daily exercise as part of a rounded lifestyle. I was living more of a "round" lifestyle..lol

Anyway, I got hooked on the lifting, the changes in my appearance, and the confidence that came with it. I also realized my wife was an idiot, which she's managed to certify time and time again en route to become my ex wife..lol

Buddy at work offered to teach me how in the fall of 2001 when I changed my diet - nothing else I had tried ever worked, so I figured "what the hell!".

I boxed and wrestled a bit in high school but I was 140 lbs my senior year (ring and mat weight were more like 130 ). I could handle myself but I was a skinny little b*stard . A couple brothers I partied with got me to go to the gym and that was that .

Not to mention that I was never real good looking , so lifting weights scored chicks .
Give me your broken , give me your beaten ... I will build them up , I will lead them ... to the threshhold . Make you stronger , make you believe .

well i've liked lifting ever since ive been like 5 years old because my dad would lift all the time, and i would go down in the basement where he would lift, and i would mess around.. curling the barbell's with no weight on em. then about 12 i started gettin into it more but could never stay motivated. when i was 15 i started getting into drugs which sucked. then at 16 (just like nik) i got arrested and had to move in with my dad, still into drugs at the time. it got so bad and i was so unhappy that i wanted to go to rehab(this past december). my friend told me to just start lifting and i could get off the drugs. so when chrismas came i told my family to buy me all these supplements, and i started lifting, its the best thing that ive ever done, i feel really good about myself, ive always wanted to be huge since i was little, and in those 5 or 6 months ive gained around 45 or 50 lbs, and ive been completely off the drugs since december, now i dont even drink. i will definatly never quit lifting and never start doing drugs again

Wanting to improve myself, and just getting tired of the being the fatty throughout middle school and the beginning of high school. Ironically, I was a scrawny little bastard when I was younger.

Ironically I do more drugs now than I did before I started lifting. Don't get me wrong I am by no means an addict but I don't mind experimenting a little because other parts of my lifestyle are very healthy.

I just wanted to finally get that 6-pack that other guys had always gotten. Strangely enough once I got that 6-pack, I decided it was overrated and have been bulking and maintaining ever since. I definitely credit this site with keeping me motivated and informed.

    growing pains and football

when i was 12 i had growing pains and the doctor thought instead of medicine another option would be for me to start weight training, and in an effort to save money (since we had weights in the back yard for as long as i could remember) my dad said screw the medicine ill have to lift weights, doctor tried to push the medicine my dad said screw you my son is pumping iron

the following fall was my first season playing football and ive been addicted ever since..

A lifetime of always being a chubby kid, and then putting on a lot of weight in the first part of college. I finally got tired of it, and I've worked my way down from 210-215 lbs at who knows what bodyfat (probably pushing 30%) to where I am today.

I have two older brothers that were bigger than me and they were a little better than me in sports, so I finally found something that I am better than them in. We used to lift together, but they lost intrest in it, and I stuck with it and am now bigger than them. I love the fact that they now look up to me for something and Im never going to let that go.
