The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Sore jaw?

I have a sore jaw like you wouldn't believe. I wake up and nearly every day it's hurting like a kick in the face. I had this last when I boxed and I just figured it was sore from being punched in the face so often... I know I grind/clench my teeth periodically, so I'm going to the dentist in a month to get a mouthguard. Until then, any suggestions?

Hmmm, GF, I think it's not lockjaw I just have a dull soreness in my jaw and I haven't had any spasms yet (this isn't a new problem, either, I've had a sore jaw on and off for a few months).

Sometimes, yes, and sometimes (like today) it hits me at some point in the middle of the day. Any chance I've been unconsciously clenching my teeth? I'm not particularly stressed or anything, so I don't know why I would grind/clench while sleeping.

You don't have to necessarily be stressed. Sounds like it could possibly be bruxism (teeth grinding): http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bru...337/DSECTION=2

TMJ? If it's mostly when you wake up I think you need a mouthguard. Like the astros fan above me said...you could just be grinding your teeth...eitherway it's not good...painful on your jaw and wears your teeth down. Go see a dentist.

Hey guys - thanks for the advice. I think it's some combination of bruxism + hereditary teeth-grinding (my dad does it too, a bunch), so lately I've tried reducing my stress level by meditating just before sleep and it's done *wonders.* I'm still going to get it checked out by a dentist when I get home this summer, but thanks for the advice until then.
