The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Caffeine, pre workout. so what's the verdict..?

i've been searching through the forum for about a week looking for ways to increase energy before a workout (primarily focusing on pre workout meals). I've noticed a lot of people recommending caffeine, but there are also arguments that it restricts bloodflow. Is there a final verdict on this?

I consume caffeine in the form of green tea extract in the mornings, then about 1-2 hrs before I lift I drink a cup of black coffee.. usually. Not always. I just don't do it right before because I always feel dehydraded for about 20 min after drinking the cup.
    <3 caffeine

Caffeine pre-workout is good stuff, just dont take it too late or you'll never get to sleep.

You guys think a can of soda has enough caffeine or will I need coffee or a pill?

Speaking of which does instant coffee have caffeine?

Everyone is different. A can of soda won't give me anything more than a little bit of a sugar high and then I'll crash. The caffeine pills contain about 200 mg, close to one strong cup of coffee.
Instant coffee does have caffeine, but not as much as brewed coffee.

I personally workout in the evening and I would be up all night if I had caffeine past about 8pm. So I don't really know how well it works from experience.

Only way to find out is to try them out for yourself.

Once again, you'll notice more sugar rush than caffeine.

A can of soda pop (355ml/12 oz) has ~40-45mg of caffeine (Coke and Pepsi). It has 41g of High Fructose Corn Syrup sugar.

A 7 oz cup of coffee has the following: (depends on strength and roast)
    Drip: 115-175 mg
    Brew: 80-135 mg
Espresso: 100mg per 2 Oz serving.

So: If you don't know what a caffeine rush is, go to the coffee shop and order a double espresso and a large coffee to go. Drink it all and wait.

You would need to drink 60 Oz of coke to get the same caffeine that you would from a 12 Oz cup of brewed coffee.

So odds are: No, you won't get the same effect. I wouldn't recommend pop pre-workout. Drink coffee, espresso, green tea or take a caffeine pill.

How much caffeine does Green Tea have? Or it too much of a variable, depending on how much the teabag soaks?

If you're looking for a positive effect from caffeine, just take the pill. It's pretty cheap and fast. I take one 200mg caffeine tab maybe an hour before a big lifting session, but not every time. In a meet, I've taken 6-7 tabs over the course fo the day. Hell of a crash afterward, but it serves its purpose.

I meant I just can't swallow pills. It's too hard to take that big gulp it make my throat feel funny. I always take liquid form medicine instead of pill even if it tastes nasty.

Do you not take a multi then? Or any supplement for that matter?

I take a caffine pill every morning before the gym. My body is kind of used to it by now, but when I first started...WHEW!! I was a madman.

    I can't understand this.

Must fall under the "everyone's different" category.

I stack 400mg of caffeine with 1g of theobromine and 3g of taurine before a workout. Works wonders.

100 - 400 mg caffiene (depending on usage experience and tolerance) is great as a pre workout boost. But remember Caffiene increases cortisol and cortisol will 'eat away' at your muscles if left unchecked.

personally i like caffine too, such as 3 or 4 cups of coffee, i usually take some kind of fat burn or thermogenic precontest or yohimbe bark recontest. other than that i just do coffee and save my precontest to supplements
