Why don't you try it? Next time do 180x1 then jump to 200 and see how it goes.

Ya but its our last day to max at school and I would rather just go for 195 (as much as i want 200) and get it than go for 200 and not get it then be burned out and not get 195.

What difference does it make? Are you being graded on how much you can do? Afraid of looking bad in front of your buddies (or the chix)?

Just try it, dude. If you miss it, then oh well. If you don't try it, you'll never know if you could have done 200 that day. No sense in not doing something just because there's a possibility you won't succeed. In essence, one who doesn't try at all is far worse off than the one who tries and fails. At least he has a chance of succeeding.

    Go for it!

I went back and checked my workout journal..

    The week before I maxed at 205, I did 95 x 8, 155 x 8, 175 x 5, 195 x 2

    The week I maxed at 205, I did 65 x 16, 95 x 6, 145 x 8, 175 x 8, 205 x 1 ( I remember this was fairly easy), 185 x 2, then 155 x 8

The next week I did 185 for 8 reps, so I'd say you're close. It really depends on how you structure your warmup. There's a fine line between too much warmup, and not enough.

I don't understand this mentality. You want to bench press 195 AND be able to say "Yeah, I could've benched 200 if I wanted to."...? Just do 200 and be done with it.
A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

I don't think ill be able to do 185 for 8 reps in a week, but one thing that i think was good too is that i did 180x3 first then 185x3 after, as apposed to 185x3 then 180x3 which wouldve been easier so i think thats a good sign, ill just go for it on friday and let you guys know. The thing i hate about bench is once you do it once and try hard your muscles are done and you cant recover like you would in squat or deadlift where you can try something again and get it the second time, whereas bench you really cant unless you dont try the first time.

Atleast tomorrow im going for allstate in power clean (195), so if i get either that or 200 for bench ill be happy

I think it is good to have goals, but bad to have drop dead dates for those goals. Why the hurry to hit 200 this week?

I think im gonna get it because today we did towel bench maxxing and i got 215x1 and then 220x1, which is probably about equal to 200 for bench.

A towel bench is done like a board press only with a folded up towel instead of a board. Some people use a carpet and call it carpet pressing (or a foam pad and call it foam pressing).

Ya i knew after i posted it that i shouldve said what it was, o well drews got it. We used to used the rolled up towels but they got pretty nasty after a while and now we got these foam pads that look like the kind on a butterfly machine, but we still call it towel bench.

like everyone already said, just load up 200 and try it....i made my goal to bench 225 during the start of summer, and had from christmas break to train for it...when i came back home last week, i tried 225, and it came back down on me...but i took off some weight, and pulled off 215 which i think is still good....

with friends watching in class, you'll have a good 10 pounds more power just from the 'fear of failure' factor. Adrenaline will be way higher than it would be lifting alone.

Oh- and squeeze the bar before attempting your lift. Puts an extra 5 pounds on your bench total for 10 seconds due to the blood flow to your hands. No clue if this is true or old wives tale!

well i got 200 for bench, barely tho cuz i got stuck in the middle and as soon as i felt i stopped going up and was gonna start goin down i arched my back and that gave me some momentum. I also got 300 for squat, which was cool that i got 200 and 300, and 385 for deadlift.
