The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    rant: started smoking

well with my current job, the only time we are allowed breaks is for smoking... it also doesnt help that i am the only one out of 20 employees that doesnt/didnt. but damn i am already on pack 3 after 2 weeks
i have smoked on and off before but i dont know if this is another one of those times....

-Then I saw a little african boy sleeping, and I thought...that is little Okeke, he is tired from herding all the goats and the big goat got away today.

    be careful
    I have been there.
When you have smoked and successfully quit, and then go back-it is way harder to quit again. I quit in '99 and then started up in sep of '01, it took me until march of 05 to quit again. The second time was way harder but I had success with the nic gum. I highly regret ever starting in the first place just like everyone who ever smoked. besides isnt it like 6 bucks a pack now anyway?

    Weak excuse to start smoking.

Demand a break at the same times for protein drinks etc etc.
I'm not moaning, i'm having an opinion.

Take a coffee break or a protein shake break. Drop the smoking.

You look cool when you smoke, though.

Sure. Try cigars. There's nothing like a penis substitute.

Earlier this year I smoked probably about two packs a day for around 4-5 days during spring break. When I came home after spring break I just stopped entirely... Honestly, cigarettes are not really fun to smoke. After a while they just taste like **** and they give you nothing for the damage they do to your lungs. Maybe the reason I was able to stop so easily was because after I came back and sobered up I once again realized that nothing good comes out of smoking cigarettes. Just stop before it becomes something that is part of your routine, once it becomes one of the enjoyable parts of a regular day, you're gonna have a problem kickin the habbit.

if they're going to be such pricks about not letting you stop except to smoke, I think you have 2 choices:

    1) Go out and hang out in the smoking area but don't inhale... you're essentially buying cigarettes and letting them burn to have a break

    2) File a written grievance and ensure whatever local labour board you have gets a copy of it. not sure what labour laws are like in Nebraska, but if an employer tried that kind of crap here in Canada, they'd be slapped down but fast. Only allowing smokers to have breaks is unfair discrimination.

right, I was just under the assumption that he took up dip to get breaks as a "safer" alternative to smoking to get breaks.

ive actually done the same when i was in high school

i worked at this blockbuster for a crappy part time job.. it was run by scumbag college kids and they all took like 6-7 smoke breaks an hour, no kidding. they did almost no work but i only got 2 breaks per shift because i didnt smoke, so i started smoking so i could do less work

i quit some years later when i realized it wasnt cool to smoke heh

Most states require a 15 minutes break for every 4 hours of work.
Best way to cheat on deadlifts...

Stand there for a few minutes, then pace back and forth a lot, huff and puff, wait until everybody's looking. Approach the bar. Back off. Approach it again. Back off. Get some water. Chalk up. Approach the bar again. Then spray some more chalk around. Wait until people start losing interest. When nobody's looking, pick it a little off the floor, and slam it down. Jump up and yell "LIGHT WEIGHT BABY". Then give high fives all around. - Belial

since its on the topic does tobacco effect muscle growth, heard the blood constriction can hamper it but then again it might be something people just tell you so you dont do it

No I did it because if I'm gonna use tobacco to get a break, I might as well use something that gives me a huge buzz.

Maybe you can go back to 1938 where cigarettes aided in many of one's abilities.

Such as diving, since it calms one's nerves ... from all angles.
