You know that really good feeling you get when you set a new PR...

Well, I had it today pulling 405 on deads. It is quickly being overshadowed by the pain that is setting in.
Holy crap that was hard. I set a pr 2 weeks ago doing 315 for 3. Then I get into some friendly competition with some buddies and have a bright idea to just go for 405! As soon as I lifted it I asked myself, "Good God man, what are you doing???" I thought about just dropping it but I pushed though, or pulled through with it. I feel good that I was able to do it, but let's just say I won't be pulling 405 for a while.

    Going from 315x3 to 405 x 1 in 2 weeks... I'd question your form on the 405 x 1 heavily. A max shouldn't be painful.

My form probably wasn't the best, but it wasn't that bad. You don't think you'd be sore giving everything you got on a lift, especially after you did 5 sets of squats and 3 sets of deads already?

    Umm... yeah

Don't attempt a PR at the end of a workout.. especially after including deads and squats in the same one.

The next time you lift try (before anything else) getting a good warmup done, and working up to 405.

    Awesome job Lou...

When I have set my own 1 Rep PRs, I almost always hurt... not so much from break down of form, but from the sear effort of the lift... my legs what to explode on squats, my spine wants to pop on DLs, and my arms feel like breaking on BPs... but it is a damn good pain...

However, if the pain doesn't go away in a short amount of time... say within 15 minutes or so, then your form probably did break down too much... and you tried to do more then you should have..

And besides being a little "stiff" the next day.. there really shouldn't be any pain the next day either..

Why would you attempt a DL max after a Squat session??
I almost want to call you a noobie... but with the weight you are lifting, I guess it hasn't hurt you in the past... LOL

But if you can hit a 405 after a Squat session... I gotta think you have another 25-50 lbs in your max DL waiting for you.

    Good luck dude..

I've done 355x5 and 375x1 and don't think I could even attempt 405 without killing myself. Good job.

I feel good today, and yeah, I think the pain was just from the big effort. I felt better an hour later.
As for why do I do deads after squats, I have a herniated disk in my 5th lumbar, and it seems doing squats are the only thing that warms up my back well enough for heavy deads. Besides, my DL day, I only work up to about 70% max on squats, so it's not too bad.
