Carbs effect on sleep
Recently on my current cut, I've been having trouble sleeping. I find if I get to sleep I'm up an hour or two later and this repeats through the night. If I have a bowl of oatmeal right before sleep or when I wake up, I pass out and get a good nights rest. Is there a reason for this? I think my weightloss and strength gains have got better since I started having a carb+protein meal right before bed.
For some reason having a protein+fat meal before bed just doesn't do it.

Carbs have a sedating effect. They're used in producing serotonin, the "feel good" brain neurotransmitter. That's one reason why if you have a lot of carbs for lunch, you feel sleepy in the afternoon. That's the simple short version. I don't know the scientific details.
