    High school running back

I'm a going out for my high school football team as a running back. I just want to know what's a good weight for a 5'8' running back? the guys in the NFL are about 215-220 lbs, but that's the NFL, i'm just playing high school football.

Weight doesnt matter with the exceptions. A 110lb varsity running back will probably get pounded on, a 250lb varsity running back is either going to be too slow to do anything or make it into a D1 school on a free ride.

Having said that, putting muscle weight on will never hurt you so as long as your doing it very cleanly bulk until your hearts content.

    Here's a good generalization/goal for you:
Get as big as you possibly can without taking much off your 40 time.

If you're on the big side already (200+ lbs) then focusing on strength and speed while staying reasonably lean would be my plan.

If you're on the small side (160lbs or less) I'd consider going out for WR unless your hands are really awful. trying to pack on 30-40lbs is NOT going to happen in time for this September.

MOST larger high school varsity RB's are in the 160-180lb range.

Meh depends what your skills are like. I was ~180lbs when I played high school varsity runningback but if I had weighed 200lbs with roughly the same %bodyfat I would have been pounding people left and right. Muscle makes it less likely that you'll get injured too.
