yes, i know there is a ton of posts like this aswell but im moving to a new house and my family and i want to setup a home gym. basically all we really need to get is a power rack, olympic weight set, a few dumbells, a free standing bench, and some accessories like collars, dip bars and stuff
i'm trying to keep the price under 1000$.. about 700$ would be ideal. this is what ive found so far.
bench..........................http://www.newyorkbarbells.com/5900.html or http://www.newyorkbarbells.com/1405.html
dumbells.......................http://www.newyorkbarbells.com/im-2000.html (a few light ones for the women)
collars.........................http://www.newyorkbarbells.com/collars.html (olympic spring lock)
rubber flooring..............what do you suggest? mabye 10feet x 5feet??
rack======$299.99 Free Freight
weights===$129.95 plus freight ($198.00)
bench====$69 + FREIGHT($50) or $89
total====$558.93 + shipping($288) = roughly $846 or so ... a little pricey..
if you guys have any suggesstions that would be sweet. me and my dad will be the main guys using this so thats why we got the bare minimum essentials with a few lighter dumbells.
I've got a decent 'gym' setup in half of my garage and for mats, I got some 'rubber' mats from home Depot. They look like they are 'strips' of old tires laying on their sides, with steel wire holding it all together. They remind me of VERY heavy duty door mats that you sometimes see before you enter a building.... You can actually drop a heavy dumbell on them from about 2 feet and they just bounce a few inches... I also use them for deads....
The only problem is they are only about 3' X 2'... So I bought 2 of them and slide them around to where I need them....
That's the EXACT rack I've got and I love it... Love the chin bar... I had a welder friend make a set of dip bars and yesterday tried them for the first time... Tri's are a little sore so EXCELLENT...
Anyways, good luck....

Get your weights locally. Used should run maybe $100. Expect to spend $100-200 on flooring. I got a powertec power rack from dumbbellbuddy.com and was very satisfied.
I've actually posted a ton of stuff about this stuff when I was building my gym about a year ago, and I'm a little too lazy to retype it, plus I don't remember the costs of everything.
With strength I burn
thanks for the replies so far. i think im going to order the power rack from nybarbells cuz it has free shipping, then for the weights and some of the other stuff i'll look around. im in toronto by the way so there should be a ton of places.
