Cutting by dropping 1000 calories per day, healthy ?

Hey guys i was just reading that there is 3500 calories in a pound of stored fat is that correct?

Now if i was to cut 1000 calories from my diet a day would i be fine do you think ?
That means 7000 a week which means i would lose 2 pounds per week and still eating 2500 calories p/d.

Now i know i shouldnt worry about figures like this and such but i do wanto see if this can work to its full extent with a clean diet and still do my muay thai twice a week and weight 3 times per week.

My goal is to lose 20 pounds in 3 months to get to my desired bodyweight to clean bulk from at 12%.
Im currently at 20%bf 5'10 176 pounds. So it works out i can lose that fat in roughly 3 months from now just from my diet.
Then on top of that muay thai 2-3 times per week and the gym twice a week so with that in consideration does that work out to be safe as i will be building muscle but performing cardio with a balanced diet.

Sorry if that sounds a tad confusing.
    Thanks.

it doesn't exactly work that way unfortunately... people who go on hunger strikes don't disappear into thin air right?

go for 80% of your maintenance...

but with hunger strikes they arent eating there required amount they lose weight but its only water before they start to lose muscle loss.
80% is roughly 500 calories for me - 1lbs per week.
So i reckon it could be done and only lose fat if so i think i would drop it down to 1.75 if it was too much.

    thanks specialk.
one more thing can you guys let me know if this is roughly correct?

If i drop 7000 calories a week i will lose 2lbs per week with no activity.
If i work out 5x a week (gym and muay thai) i am burning more calories so is that where the problem lies with losing muscle aswell...

So say i drop 5000-6000 calories a week (1.5lbs per week) and do muay thai and B/B that should equate to 2lbs per week roughly ? Is that right ?

Did you even read the article I posted? You should not be dropping your calories by that much at once.

    hey guys.
reading that article it says for me to lose 600 calories per day 4200 per week.
if i was to lose 1.5 pounds per week it would be 5250 so only 1000 calories difference, not that much at all, so i dont think i would be losing lbm and fat, only fat

if you really want to do it your way.. give it a shot then... take measurements and adjust as you go along

hey guys thanks for all the great responses,
I checked on bb.com to see how many calories i burn for kickboxing and weights it works out to be a total of 2276 per week so if i cut 500 calories a day from my diet it means it would mean i lose 1.6lbs from eating healthy and doing cardiovascular training. compared to 3lbs a week if i ate at 1000. So do you guys think that is a better approach for me to do.
    Cheers

projectaero, calculations like these can only amount to a rough estimate and nothing more. lots of other uncontrollable factors contribute to fat loss e.g. how your body reacts to the deficit. you will only know what's best for you by experimenting, and we've already posted our suggestions.

You have two paths you can follow... You can follow built's advice, or you can do your own thing. Neither is wrong, but Built's method is proven. You could cut by 1,000 per day, but generally only if you are really fat to begin with. If you are relatively lean (under 20% BF) you should probably take it a bit slower.

But, like the guy mentioned above, just take measurements and if you are looking better in the mirror week by week, just run with it.

The one thing you absolutely cannot cut down on is protein, you have to persuade your body to hold on to the muscle and shed the fat. You do this by lifting low reps/high weight and by maintaining your protein intake level.

well going by the calories burned in weight training and muay thai that i only need to eat 500 less calories as the 5x a week training = 2600 or so calories what means i will be burning 1.5lbs a week.
