The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

No, no, no. You don't say "I'm just eating and sleeping," you say you're having a "de-load" week. You have to use the right vernacular, otherwise you just sound like you're being a lazy butt.

I found out about a strongman competition that I may be able to compete in during the summer (hopefully with Klotz). In order to not suck, I'm going to make my routine a little more relevent. With any luck I'll be able to train with the implements a few times before school's over. This would be done on the weekend.

    Monday
    Power Clean: 3-5 sets of 5, 80%
Incline press, push press or millitary press: 3 sets of 5 (heavy)
    Squat: 5 sets of 5, ~65%

    Wednesday
Clean and Jerk: work up to 80% for 5-6 singles
Romanian/straight leg/stiff leg deadlift: 3-4 sets of 3-4 reps (heavy)

    Friday
Power snatch or cleans: 3-5 sets of 5, 80%
Squat: work up to 6 sets of 5-6 reps (heavy)
Incline press, push press or millitary press: 5 sets of 5, ~65%

    Notes
I'll alternate squats and deads every week.
On days where I have more energy and/or time, I will add up to 3 of the following exercises, in the 3 sets of 10 range. They are listed in the priority I need to be working on them: farmer's walks, chins, dips, lat pulldowns, curls, calf raises

As usual, any suggestions are welcome!

Are you talking about island heroes?
It looks decent. Personally I'd go heavy twice a week, but it's up to you. Make sure you keep the rest breaks between clean sets short. Also work on static holds of 120 dbs if you're not doing farmer's that day.

This is what I did when I was training for the contest.

Squats: 5x5 or 3x3 or whatever
    Front squats 3x5
    DB farmers

Deadlifts: either nx3 or go for max (I was also in a powerlifting bet)
Back extensions: 3x10 with 120 db. (these were recommended to up my deadlift)
    Chins: 3 sets

    Bench: 5x5 or 3x3
    Weighted dips: 3x

    Strict press: 5x5
    Push press: 3x3

Probably not the best way, but it's how I did things. I needed way more conditioning and way more implement training.

Nice. I am talking about the Island Heroes. Do you do a 2 heavy days and one light day, as opposed to 3 heavy exercises a week? I definately need the conditioning as well. I'm thinking I may be able to do that by supersetting the accessory work at the end of some of the workouts. The implement training is a crapshoot....whenever we can get to RMC, I guess.

The past few weeks I've been dicking around a lot, but I usually go "heavy" three times a week. As I'm sure you've noticed, my training varies a lot week to week.

    Hang Clean
    bunch x bar
    5x40 kg
    5x50 kg
    5x50 kg
Strength was there, conditioning was not.

    Push Press
    5x95
    5x115
    5x125
    5x125
    5x125
moderate rest period. Will move up to 130 next attempt.

    Squat
    bunch x bar
    5x135
    5x225
    5x225
    5x225

Dips supersetted with neutral grip chins
    6, 6
    6, 6
    Had more in the tank

    Notes
Felt slow and weak as ****. Besides being out of shape, I kept the volume down because I have a hockey game tonight. I'm going to start timing my rest periods between non-max sets and force it lower from week to week. My lungs suck.

Slow and weak doing hang cleans must have sucked. The idea about lowering your rest periods between sets is a good idea, I'm doing it now myself....

Yeah starting off with cleans after a week of sleep 10 hours per night was NOT a good idea. I think it will be better next time, but my lungs need to catch up haha
