Today really tested my limits. On a scale of 1 - 10, my energy was about 0. Definitely no PR's on bench, just wanted to get a couple heavy sets in.

Wanted 600 x 5, but I'm happy with 4, still a solid PR. Form continues to get better, been working on hip mobility a lot and I've definitely noticed I'm pulling with my hips lower and my knees spread apart more.

Do you know who Kelly Starrett is? Look up some of his mobility vids on youtube. There's a couple different videos where he shows some stretches/exercises to do before squats/deadlifts.

Almost didn't squat today as my lower back is trashed from this week. Once I got warmed up however, I felt pretty good. No pain in my knees which is nice for once.

Well, some good and bad today. The good is I hit 475. It was pretty crazy how fast it came off my chest, then it ground almost to a halt just before lockout. Top 1/4 of the movement is really holding me back big time.

The bad is, during the second rep with 435 I felt something tweak in my right pec. I wasn't sure if it was just a cramp or what, so I stretched a little bit and tried a lighter set with close grip. Could feel something pulling/aching pretty good by the 4th rep with 385 so I called it a day there. I don't think I tore anything, no sharp pain or anything just a little bit of a dull ache, but I'll have to take it easy for the next week or two. I have a feeling I pulled something during the 475 rep since it was such a grinder.

Whatever I did to my chest on Monday, I don't think it was anything major. I can kind of feel a bit of a knot right there the sore spot is, hoping that's all it is. Was gonna skip hitting my chest completely but decided to do some light incline to see how it felt. Warm up sets felt great, but I could feel the sore spot start to get aggravated during the set with 285 so I called it quits there.

Have you ever had Graston done? If not, find someone that is certified and have them work on that knot.

Never heard of it to be honest. How does it differ from ART/Deep Tissue work?

I haven't had any ART done so I can't really compare. From what my friend told me Active release is a massage stroke having to do with lengthening a muscle under deep pressure and graston is a scrapping technique.

Yeah the guy I go to does ART style therapy and it's mainly applying pressure while lengthening and contracting the muscle, along with massaging. Next time I go in I'll ask him about graston.

Big PR on squat. Was freaking wiped out after the 550 set. Still dieting but I'm going to add in a second higher carb day each week; strength has been good but I'm really noticing that I'm gassing out even faster than usual lately.

I think anyone would be gassing out from the weight and volume your working with, good stuff on the squats and especially the benching.

    Thanks Kevin.

So a bit of a surprise today. I knew the scale in the locker room at my gym is off by quite a bit, but I never really knew just how much. I finally bought a new digital scale as my old one has been broken for a while; weighed in at 213. Not the end of the world, but I really thought I was closer to 205, and at least under 210. I'm still going to try for 198 in November but it will not be as easy as I was hoping. I'll probably have to stick to my diet pretty close up until the meet.

213 to 198 shouldn't be too tough, but then again your already pretty damn lean. Dropping some water weight for a day-before weigh in is doable but i've had it sap my strength more than I expected.

Yeah I've dropped 10 - 12 pounds in the past but I always notice a little loss of strength, even if I do 24 hour weigh-ins. I just hate having to cut lots of weight and then eat my ass off the night before.

Thanks! I really should try to get videos more often, I don't think I've ever posted a back squat except from my past meets, and I'm pretty lazy about getting my bench on film as well.
