The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Feeling a little beat up today, first couple reps with 435 were nice and fast and then I quickly lost steam; 4th rep I started to fail about half way up, spotter helped a little before I told him to, though I doubt I would have gotten it. Might start doing some heavy pin presses, my lockout is really holding me back big time. 400 with a wide grip, flat back, and a pause feels like butter while I struggle to hit 4 reps with 435....

I used to bench a little on the narrow side but I've been bringing it out a little bit lately. I think my pinkies are an inch or two inside the last set of rings.

    Grip Work - Plate Pinches

Back still a little sore today so the squats didn't feel the greatest. Wasn't hitting as deep as I would like either, probably just shy of parallel. Need to get used to squatting with wraps. Grip work has come a long ways in just a few short weeks. Was able to pinch two 25's today for the first time ever.

Wow, that's still pretty narrow. I always wonder what would be the ideal grip for me to use on bench. I use middle finger on rings for comp grip. My bench is so horrible and my lockout is weak, I always go with the idea that a shorter ROM is my only chance.

Strong work on the squats. Do you find that you descend quicker without wraps? I'd say when you get more comfortable to try getting down faster which should help with depth and rebound.

I'm a lot slower with wraps, descent speed is the main thing I need to work on big time.

Energy was at an all time low today. Wanted 625 for 2 but the first rep was slow as molasses so I didn't even bother trying for a second. I might need to add in a second small reefed during the week as I'm not quite making it all the way to Friday without depleting pretty badly. Weight today was 207.8; still dropping weight pretty steadily. Definitely ahead of schedule at this point.

Hate when energy is low, If I miss a carb load the day before I work out I definitely feel it come lift day. Awesome past couple sessions regardless and 625 at 207 is nothing to scoff at.

Yeah there's a real fine line for me. I can go 3 - 4 workouts after a big reefed and feel great, and on the 5th day my tank is literally empty.

Knees are feeling a little better since I've been foam rolling more, but my CNS is straight up fried from this last week. Front squats felt like a billion pounds. Going to take things lighter next week.

Wide stance leg press was with my feet about as wide as I could get them on the platform, and with my toes just hanging off the top edge. Really liked the movement, could feel it in my glutes big time. Just kind of playing around trying to find ways to work my glutes/hams without involving much lower back.

Not sure how you can deadlift heavy yesterday and then bust out all that leg volume today, my CNS would be fried too. Strong stuff as usual.

Yep. If I've learned anything from watching some of Dan's training, it's that I'm not doing half as much work as I should be, lol.
