The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I thought about Raw Unity this year but instead decided to take a good few months off from competing and really grow into the 220's. I know it's a long ways away but I do plan on doing RUM in 2015; I'm getting to the point where I do definitely want to start lifting on a bigger stage against some real competition. I have my sights set pretty high right now however and don't plan on competing again until I'm in the 1850 - 1900 total range.

Good progress today, felt strong with 430 and the pin presses already felt better after only 1 week. Really no idea why I tried doing inclines at the end, I was so gassed I called it quits after one heavy set.

Didn't feel the greatest warming up today, lower back was pretty tight, but I still managed a 2 rep PR on sumo pulls. I could have done a couple more reps with the 585 back down set but I'm trying to hold myself back just a little bit with my heavy work, I always seem to strain something when I go to failure with every set.

Military press felt great, close grip felt not so great. Was the complete opposite last week, go figure. I am pretty much back to where I was with the mili's, my all time PR was 270 x 3 and I could have easily added another 5 or 10 pounds to the 265 set. Body weight is finally moving a little bit again, was up to 222 a couple days ago. Still relatively lean, goal is still 230 but I have a feeling I might end up closer to 235/240 before I diet based on the way things have been going.

If anybody reading this knows the answer; what qualifies somebody to have a "Pro" journal? Is this only for multiply pro totals? I don't want to sound like I'm whining as I really don't care about it too much, but I have the 5th raw total @ 198 in the nation (for 2013), what exactly do I have to do to be considered a "Pro"?

I don't know if they have any type of qualifying total, but if they did yours absolutely exceeds it. Mine doesn't, but I think they made mine a "Pro Journal" because I was here from the beginning, I was a moderator and at the time I could squat decent weights in multiply. I'm actually embarrassed to have the title for how shitty I consider my lifts lol.

Pretty happy with today; 445 felt better than 440 did a couple weeks ago. There is no doubt the pin pressed are helping now, my lockout already feels so much stronger.

If I had to guess I would say the bar is about 6" off my chest, maybe a little less.

Today went better than expected considering my lower back is still constantly tight. Warm-ups felt heavy with squat, was planning on 535 x 2 but managed a third. Pretty sure that's an all time 3 rep PR without wraps.

It's funny how there's those days where you don't feel the best, everything feels heavy, but you still end up hitting PR's. Had a stressful day at work and I drank a lot last night, so the fact that I was able to hit 450 while being mentally and physically beat is a great sign. Getting more and more excited about this training cycle as the weeks progress. First time in forever something isn't injured as well.

Today was pretty bad, lower back was so tight, I was in quite a bit of pain once I started warming up, probably the worst it's been in a long time. 545 felt like dogshit so I dropped the weight and did some real wide stance sumos. The only good thing about my back being so sore with these is it forces me to stay upright and really focus on my hips, glutes, and legs. This was actually the heaviest I've ever gone with the wider stance before and I still had more left in me.

Got stuck with the bar just above my head on the second rep of 285; spotter had to give me a little nudge and then I locked it out. Not a true 285 x 2 military but very close.

Just was not feeling it today on squats. Plan was to take a stab at 475 but after hitting 435 I knew it wasn't going to happen.

Felt strong as shit today. 455 was very smooth, I think I had 465 in me today. Was pretty fatigued after 4 heavy working sets and didn't go as heavy as I wanted on the pin presses.

560 is a PR without wraps but I wasn't happy about my form, not sure if my back is still fatigued or what but I was leaning forward even more than usual and doing the typical half good morning/half squat. Thinking it might have been something with my hips as well, just didn't feel right once I got down into the hole. The only good thing was once I got out of the hole and maybe 2/3 of the way up the weight was just snapping right up to lockout, never had the top half of a squat snap up so fast like that.
