The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Accessory Bench, Shoulders

    Close Grip Bench
    135 x 5
    185 x 5
    225 x 5
    255 x 5
    275 x 5

    Push Press (behind the neck)
    135 x 10
    185 x 5
    225 x 5
    245 x 5
    225 x 10

    DB Front Raise
    45 x 7
    45 x 7
    45 x 7
    45 x 10

    DB Rear Delt Row
    35 x 8
    35 x 8
    35 x 8

Triceps felt nice and fresh today so we decided to go heavy instead of speed work. Close grip seems to be improving real fast; tried out suicide grip and it seemed to help. Haven't done push-press in a long time so I took it easy weight wise.

So I found out there's a different meet the same day as the one I was originally going to do, and it's much closer. They also have a raw division for sure, and there will be national judges so if I actually break any records they will be recorded. I haven't sent in my form for the APF meet yet so I think I'm gonna do this one instead. I called the guy running the APF meet and he said they weren't going to have the judges I'd need to get a National record recorded, the only way I could break a record is if it were a World record, lol. Only reason I haven't made up my mind is the other meet, USAPL, has weigh-ins that morning, like 2 hours before lifting starts, and I can't use knee wraps for a raw squat. The APF meet has 24 hour weigh ins, and I can wear wraps. Today I weighed 186 with shoes and gym clothes on. I'm just worried about making weight for the USAPL meet since I won't have any time to carb-up.

Honestly, no real bad sticking points with my squat. If I can get it moving out of the hole I pretty much have the lift every time. I know though, and my training partners tell me all the time, that my hams are lagging big time. I never really hit them besides squats/deads because most good ham exercises aggravate my lower back (GM's, SLDs, etc). I've been told to try some reverse lunges. GHR's are alright, though they can bother my lower back a little too sometimes.

Thanks, like I said dips don't really carry over to bench for me, no idea why I can do so much.

So max effort deads sucked balls today. I did get 560 on video, I'll put it up sometime later tonight, but be warned, my form is beyond ****ty. It was literally a SLDL, back arched like a mofo, absolutely no hams/leg drive. I'm real pissed right now. I have all the back strength in the world but my hams are lagging so bad I'd probably pull less if I kept my form real strict. After this upcoming meet I'm going to completely re-work my deadlift.

I'll be honest, I didn't expect your form to be like that based on your numbers, but good thing is, once you perfect it and really spend time on your technique, you'll be putting up some disgusting numbers. Good to know where you're going wrong and you can work on it. Your starting position was really low and your hips shot way up before the weight broke the floor which I'm sure you saw. Isn't it good you record your lifts? You can pin point your flaws and weaknesses. LOL @ the people on the floor getting scared by you dropping the weight, especially the woman in the white shirt.

Thanks coke. I thought they came out pretty good, I really need to find somebody with a good camera though, I used my phone for those. As you can see I'm very pale so I need extremely good lighting for vascularity/striations to show.

I've been trying to work on my posing quite a bit as well, not as easy as it looks lol.

    275 x 1
    315 x 1
    330 x 3

    Close Grip Bench

    295 x miss

    Tate Press
    45 x 10
    55 x 7
    55 x 7
    55 x 6

Energy was kinda ****ty starting out and I can definitely feel all the heavy work I've been doing in my joints, but despite all that bench turned out pretty good. Wasn't planning on going for a new max again but 340 felt great so why not. 15 pounds away from benching the same as when I weighed 230.

Those were literally the same thoughts that I had. Your legs are thick and sick man! Huge outter quads! Your lats look great when they're over head.

You know what you need to do for your DL, but like you said work on that after the contest.

    250 x 8

    230 x 10

Not sure if I already said so in here or not but I found out there's a USAPL meet the same day as the one I was originally going to do, and it's a lot closer, so I ended up going with that one; just sent the form in today. No knee wraps in the raw division however, so I wanted to hit some heavy weight without them today to get a feel for it again. 445 was pretty smooth, I wanted to go up in weight but was advised to take it easy since I'm 2 weeks out. Only good thing about no wraps is I pretty much bury it in the hole so depth should not be an issue.

Body weight was 181 today without shoes on.

October 23rd. I'll def get more out of wraps in time. That last session was the first time I'd had somebody wrap them extremely tight for me. Honestly after feeling them wrapped the correct way I'm pretty sure I wasn't really getting anything out of them before lol.

There's nothing like finding out what it's like to have someone truly wrap your knees. I remember coaching a high school PLing meet and a kid asked for some help wrapping his knees. So I told him I knew what to do and I wrapped one knee, and he had someone wrap the other leg. Well.... the kid goes through with his lift and immediately after he is done he drops to a near bench and is aggravatedly yelling for someone to "get this damn wrap off of, get this off" as he's pointing to the leg that I wrapped. haha

Getting your knees wrapped by someone who knows how to do it is just very painful, but you definitely feel the assistance that the wrap gives you.

The wraps will definitely do you some justice. You'll be at 500+ with more repetition, and you'll be doing great when you start putting the BW back on.

What are your plans in the near future? Are you going for a BBing contest also, will you look to add some weight?

After this meet I plan on trying to put some mass back on. I'm still going to be fairly strict with my diet however, would really like to keep my bf% about the same while I slowly bulk. This is definitely the only time I'll ever compete at 181.

Still would like to do a bodybuilding show next summer. Really hoping I can put on enough mass to come in at the heavier side of the light-heavies.
