The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

There were some skinny mofo's in the lighter weight classes but I was probably pretty close to being the leanest.

I definitely want to compete again in a few months. Will be shooting for 1400 lb Raw total @ 181 if I can keep my weight under 190.

    Cable Pushdowns
    150 x 10
    180 x 5
    200 x 5
    220 x 5
    230 x 5

    140 x 10
    155 x 5
    170 x 5
    185 x 5

Bench felt great today, especially for wide grip. Was a little leery since I just hit my shoulders hard yesterday but it didn't seem to make a difference.

How is it that you're repping your 1rm competition lift for 3 reps just days later? Actually, I know why... its because that weight is nothing for you. What I mean to ask is -- was your 330 in competition just a very conservative attempt? Or were you burnt out? I would think you repping 330x3 today would put you at a about a 360x1, no?

There's a difference between a normal touch and go gym bench and a paused competition bench. The judging was pretty fair but the pauses weren't short by any means either. The whole foot thing threw me off too as I already mentioned. I hit a 345 paused bench in the gym a week before my meet so trust me when I say I wasn't very happy with 330.

I'm super ****ing excited for this training cycle though with the increased cals. As long as I stay healthy I think I'm capable of putting 5 pounds on my bench every other week. I think I upped my bench by 20 or 30 pounds in like a month about a year ago when I was eating a **** load.

How much weight do you plan to gain? Do you plan on competing in the 181's for a long time? Possibly move up the 198's some day?

I'm not really focused on a set weight. Just tweaking my diet so I'm making good gains in the gym and not putting on any fat. If I can find a meet within the next few months I'll try to compete at 181 again. Really depends on what my weight is though, I don't wanna have to try and cut down any more than about 10 pounds.

Forgot go log squats from Friday:

ATF Squats, no belt, no wraps

    135 x 10
    225 x 10
    315 x 5
    465 x 1
    405 x 1
    425 x 2
    405 x 3

    Leg Curls

    Standing Calf Raise

Really focused on depth with squats, I didn't pause at the bottom but my hams were definitely touching my calves. Going that deep is humbling as opposed to just stopping at parallel, thought I was going for 4 reps with 425 but after the first rep I was like fuuuuu that felt really heavy.

Friday night was pretty interesting. I don't drink very often at all, like maybe once every few months. Went to a Halloween party dressed as Rambo and ended up drinking a fifth of vodka + some other random ****. Honestly have no idea what I was thinking, I had a full stomach when I first started drinking so it took a long time fro the alcohol to hit me. By the time it did it was way too late, I'd already drank like half the fifth. Ended up blacking out around 3 am, friends almost took me to the hospital, said I was breathing irradically, they were pretty worried from what it sounds like. I feel absolutely terrible about everything that happened and I probably won't be drinking again for quite a while. Some chick was trying to get in my pants while I was passed out laying on her on a couch and I ended up puking all over the couch, and on her, lol.

Hahaha, great story. That's awesome that you had some girl trying to take advantage of you while you're passed out. I haven't been that drunk since high school days. If I drink now, I always eat and drink as much water as possible before bed. But I guess there's not much you can do if you passed out at the party, lol.

The story is actually twice as funny if you've seen the South Park Jersey Shore episode that came out a few weeks ago. The girl was dressed as Snookie lol.

Have an exam this evening so I tried to keep the workout short. Pulls felt awesome even with sub-par energy today. Gonna try to start pulling heavy ever week, shouldn't be a problem now that I'm eating more.

    170 x 5
    200 x 5
    215 x 5
    170 x 10

My shoulders were sore for some reason today, right where the pec inserts, and I was a little leery about benching heavy. I think I might start throwing in another warm up set with 135 because I felt great after hitting a couple heavy sets. Might be the same thing that happens with my lower back, I'll get a crazy pump right when I start lifting and it'll eventually fade away during the workout as I get warmed up.

Anyhoo, 340 felt ****ing great. Second rep with 345 was a grinder but I think 345 x 2 is real close to a PR at any body weight for me. Real pissed about the close grip, should have had 305. Oh well, at least I'm getting close to my goal of 315. Couple more weeks hopefully.

Definitely on the right track with your diet plan and with the alternating of heavy and speed days. I'd expect to see some new gains, do I expect correctly?

Any goals in sight? I see 315 for CG bench. I'm assuming you want to surpass all of your previous bests regardless of your BW.

Thanks guys. I'm really hoping I can make some big jumps now that I'm eating more food. When my training is spot on I can make gains even while cutting, which is evident from the past, so I'm excited to see what happens now. Last year when I was heavier I had a lot of problems with injuries, partially due to me lifting like a dumbass. I'm real close to feeling 100% again for the first time in a long ass time.

New goals are 400 bench, 500 squat, 600 deadlift, all raw/belt only, 198 weight class.

Here's a couple pics from tonight, broke down and got my swole on with a tub of ice cream and some oreo cookies. I'm planning on taking pics more often so I can track any fat gain, much easier to see in pictures than looking in the mirror everyday.
