The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Was gonna do a de-load today but I felt great warming up so I kept the weights moderately heavy.

Got to look at myself in a mirror with some good overhead lighting for the first time in months, was pretty surprised at how lean I still am. Weight was 197 and I'm flat as hell from low-carbing it all week. I graduate in June and then I'll have some free time until I find a job, unless I can get one lined up before then. Really thinking about doing a show again. A few of the guys I train with a hopping on cycles this fall/winter and I'll probably follow along; this may be my last opportunity to compete au naturel. I'm gonna do a short little cut experimenting with MCT oil, if I can get down below 10% then I'll probably compete for sure.

You always fall in love with yourself when you get under some good lighting, lol.

This sounds like a solid plan. You look very good and have a great back and legs. If you come in good condition you will place good. Simple as that. If you compete natural you will place very well.

Go on ahead and make it happen.

    Shoulders, Tris

    Military Press
    135 x 10
    185 x 5
    205 x 2
    225 x 1
    235 x miss

    155 x 5
    135 x 10

    Close Grip Bench
    135 x 10
    185 x 5
    225 x 5
    275 x 7

    Cable Lateral Raise

    60 x 5
    60 x 5
    50 x 10

    Triceps Pushdowns
    180 x 5
    220 x 5
    240 x 5
    240 x 5

    Rear Delt Machine

I really need to get some chalk; I go thumb-less on close grip bench and when I was warming up I got a little sloppy and the bar rolled right out of my hands and dropped from pretty much lockout onto my chest. Thank god it was only 135, still pretty embarrassing though. Scared the shit out of me too.

I used to put up some heavy ass weight with behind the neck push presses but I've been playing around with going slow with a pause. Letting the weight rest on your traps in between reps and using no momentum is really brutal. Makes the weight feel twice as heavy.

    315 x 5
    405 x 5
    475 x 2

    115 x 5
    125 x 4

Pulls felt good, form is definitely getting better; a lot more emphasis on my hams and glutes, barely felt like I worked my back at all.

Should also note I'm starting a little experimental diet using MCT oil. Will go for 3 - 4 weeks until the two bottles of oil run out. I'll write up the diet later, but it's basically a TKD. I'll take some before pics tonight and probably update weekly.

Have you noticed any trap growth since pulling sumo? How's you recovery from sumo vs conv?

Not really, my traps have always been a strong point and seem to grow even without hitting them directly. I think recovery is definitely better with sumo. Since my form is so much better I'm not blasting the shit out of my lower back. Been thinking about pulling twice a week actually since I'm not nearly as sore after sumo deads.

Plan was 385 x 2 on bench but I touched way too high on the first rep and barely got it. 365 felt good, shoulda gone for a 4th but I felt like shit as it's 80 degrees out and the air wasn't on in the gym. My energy takes a huge dump when it's hot and humid. Not expecting miracles these next few weeks but I'd still like to make some small strength gains while cutting.

    Quads 'n Bi's

    Squats (no belt)
    135 x 10
    225 x 5
    315 x 3
    365 x 1
    405 x 1

    95 x 5
    135 x 5
    135 x 5
    115 x 10

Squats were meh. Form is still kinda fucked, pretty much doing a good morning on the way up. If I can learn to get my chest up high and keep my hips from shooting up immediately I feel like I'd be close to 500 belt-less. Have all the strength in the world in my legs but that doesn't mean shit when your back is doing 75% of the work lol.

At least you are aware of what you need to do to address the squats...get that squared away soon, even if going somewhat lighter to fine tune your form, nothing worst than a major injury.

Today was the worst it's been in quite a while energy wise, and I have nobody to blame but myself. Didn't eat my normal breakfast, was up super late last night, and to top it all off I had food poisoning yesterday so I barely ate anything and spent all morning on the toilet. No idea why I even tried pulling, it was fucking pathetic. 525 felt like a million pounds. Fucking dumbass shoulda just took a deload today.

When I was PLing I did Sumo's on a regular basis. I was much younger, but I was able to recover tremendously after sumo's.

I say give the double sessions a run. I bet your sumo would increase quickly with a few weeks of that type of work.
