The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Thanks Terry.

Rack Pulls (bar level with knees)
    225 x 10
    315 x 5
    405 x 5
    495 x 1
    585 x 1
    635 x 1
    665 x 1
    685 x 1
    705 x 1

    Bent Over Row Machine
    90 x 10
    180 x 9
    180 x 8
    135 x 15

    Glute Ham Raise

Not sure if that's a PR on rack pulls at that height, but my from was pretty good and my back felt great, so I'm happy.

Looking over your squat day. Pretty cool that you messed up the first rep with 520 and still re-groupped to get 4. Days like that are always good teaching lessons.

    Bench
    135 x 10
    135 x 10
    225 x 5
    275 x 3
    315 x 3
    375 x 1
    425 x 3
    ~Wide Grip~
    385 x 5

    Reverse Grip Pushdowns

    Cable External Rotation

Felt like shit today. I paused with the 3rd rep of 425 about 6 inches off my chest, spotter gave it a little touch and then I was able to lock the rest out. Doesn't really count as a true set of 3 but I logged it anyways to keep track of what I did (tried).

Tricep tendinitis is still driving me crazy. Was able to grit through it on bench but could barely do any direct tricep work. Pushdowns were light weight high reps just to get some blood flowing.

    Front Squats
    135 x 10
    135 x 10
    225 x 5
    315 x 2
    375 x 1
    355 x 6
    325 x 6

    Seated DB Curls
    40 x 10
    40 x 5
    55 x 10
    60 x 8
    60 x 7

Kind of a half ass deload. Felt like complete ass, everything felt heavy as shit, no energy, etc. Weighed my self before leaving the gym.... 199 lbs. No wonder I felt like shit. Need to add some cals back in, dropping weight way too fast. I usually vary about 10 pounds during the week from the day after my refeed to the last workout session right before my refeed, but I still have 2 more sessions to go this week and I'm flat as fuuuuuck.

    Incline Bench
    135 x 10
    135 x 10
    225 x 5
    275 x 5
    325 x 2
    360 x 4
    ~Paused~
    235 x 10

    DB Rear Delt Row
    50 x 10
    80 x 10
    80 x 10
    80 x 9

    Cable Lateral Raise
    50 x 5
    80 x 10
    70 x 10

    Cuban Press, DB's
    20 x 10
    20 x 10
    20 x 10

I like the cubans a lot better with dumbbells. Right elbow/tricep is still bothering me quite a bit, probably shouldn't have gone heavy on bench. I figured using a wider grip would take some of the stress off but it still hurt pretty bad with the set of 360.

    135 x 12

    Low Cable Row
    200 x 5
    270 x 8
    250 x 10

Should have just taken a light deload today, no idea why I tried to pull. Wanted 575 x 5 but had absolutely nothing in the tank. Stopped at 3 instead of trying to kill myself and hit one more lighter set just to get some work in. Still going to extend my cut through next week but I'm upping my cals by about 500 a day. I honestly think some days these last couple weeks I was eating barely over 2k cals, which is obviously waaay too low for me.

Stupid numbers in here as usual brother... All the talk of deloading. Why not just take a week off? Do some light movements with 135-225 on the big movers a couple times but that's it. Eat up and rest. Maybe it'll help?

Today was pretty fucking pathetic. My knees have been killing me these past couple weeks. No idea why, I have never had problems with my knees in the past. Worked up to 555 with wraps on squats and it was horrid. Hurt just walking around afterwards.

Meet is 3 weeks from Saturday. Don't know what do to do. Obviously going to skip squats next week, but I don't want to take the whole 3 weeks off. Anything more than 2 or 3 weeks without going at least moderately heavy and my strength starts going backwards. I really want to say fuck this sport at this point. This is the 3rd time in a row my body has decided to start falling apart only a few weeks out from a meet. Months of steady progress for nothing.

you hit it pretty hard and even your deloads don't give your joints much rest.

So, you're three weeks out and your knees hurt. I suggest work up to a heavy triple next week, then up to your opener the week after, then a full week off to recover. And week off = week off. None of this deload shit everyone talks about. Don't step foot in the gym. Just relax, foam roll, hot tub, etc.. Maybe do some light cardio to get blood flowing.

You got this shit, you just got to be smart about it.

heavy triple doesn't necessarily mean 3RM either. Just something that "feels" heavy. Maybe do it for 2 sets. The following week when you work up to your opener, take smaller jumps on the weights so you still get some decent reps in.

    Thanks Jake.

I do plan on taking the week before the meet off completely.

I have a feeling this is some kind of patella tendonitis, when I rub the area with my fingers the pain feels like it's coming from a tendon, just above my knee cap. I'm going to start foam rolling my quads this week, I almost never do.

You really think I should try squatting next week? If I start warming up next week and my knees still feel like shit, should I stop squatting for the day?

pain at the top of the knee is different than what I have and have squatted through.

    Here's something I found though: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...1024971&page=1

Did you ever get that video I asked for a while back? lol. I could just be tech related and you're using too much quads when squatting. Regardless, it depends on pain level. When I wrap my knees tight, my squats don't hurt. But after a squat, it can hurt to walk for a couple hours. You've got to play it by ear. I personally would still do what I told you because I'm a fool like that, haha.
