The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    What is the pump?

From Arnold's DVD, I saw he mentions "the pump" a lot. Is he joking or does this actually occur? Does it only occur if you are on steroids like he was? I don't know if I ever felt a pump or what. I usually just feel sore and unable to lift anymore when I go to the gym. Thanks for explainations!

Arnold also claimed that he felt like he was "cumming" everytime he worked out, competed, or did almost anything.

When you lift, blood moves into your muscles more rapidly. "The pump" as I understand it, is the point at which your muscles are full or near full of said blood. An inflation of sorts.

I get a pump for my arms really easy. Like on a day that i do a little bit of iso bicep work at the end of my workout, ill just go to exhastion on the last rep, and lower the weight when i cant do it and keep going. At the end i get to the point where im so pumped i cant touch my shoulder.

I only really notice them in my biceps or shoulders, just after some bicep curls just touch your biceps, you wont even be flexing but they will feel that way now try and pull your forearm to your bicep, you won't even be able to do it. It is a pretty cool feeling, makes you feel big lol.

I thought it was funny when Arnold said every time he lifted weights he'd want to cum. I remember seeing that clip somewhere and I just thought WTF? Even to this day I think "Um lifting isn't that sexual now"

I love that, I sit on a high raised bench, and with 15kilos dumbells keep going, usually with a mate helping me out with each hand, then you keep dropping down the weights... 12.5, 10, 7.5

My whole arms are dead by then end of this.
Being a strong teenager means nothing.

My wrists hurt, but some people don't have wrists to be sore. My knees have tendinitis, but some people don't have legs to get tendinitis in. I seem to be going backwards with training, yet some people can't even walk let alone lift 400 pounds on a daily basis.

Dust out the vagina, and keep on lifting.

What??? You never felt a pump?? That's pathetic! Wow! It has always been easy for me to achieve pumps, I've had upper arm pumps as big as 1''+, bigger than my cold measurement! I guess we all have different genetics!

Why is he pathetic if he hasnt felt a pump? Either he isnt really sure what a pump is, or he simply doesnt feel as though he gets them..

Perhaps he meant that the statement was rubbish (false), as opposed to not getting a pump. If he didn't, then i agree 100%

My pumps are HUGE. My chest used to get so pumped that after each set I would go to the bathroom and take my shirt off and stare at my own chest in amazement. My arms pumped are 20 inches.

(Also, I don't do the bathroom thing anymore, that was 4 years ago.)

What motivates me and strokes my ego is lifting more each time in the gym. Pumps are fine, but they don't move the iron.

That's not to say other people don't derive motivation or ego boosts from the pump. However, people need to know and remember, like soreness, the presence, or lack thereof, of a pump is not an indication that your muscles are working hard.

(Speaking of iron, are the plates at the gym actually made of iron? Or is it some other metal these days?)

ALot of the stuff is metal coated in rubber, thats what we have in the school gym, not as clanky.

Wow you boys are kinda idiotic sometimes.

A pump is just the increased bloodflow to the muscles, it happens EVERY time you lift you just may not notice it except in the teensy tiny little muscle groups (aka. your biceps) and then the only way you notice it is the decreased flexibility and increased definition.

Now, you shouldnt have to be doing idiotic things like curling until failure, and then dropping the weights in 2.5 lb intervals till failure every time. That is idioitic! No wonder some of you guys cant keep mass, I do a 3X10 on my biceps with 25 lbs p/arm and I have a peak that will kick most girls asses. Keep in mind your biceps arent only worked by isolated excersizes but also by anything that involves pulling (pull-ups, lat pulldowns... that kind of ****). So by doing that much work you are, in fact, contributing to an even slower increase in muscle size and not helping your pump at all. All it is is complete and total exhaustion in this less than one foot in length muscle. If you want to overwork something then do something worthwhile that you will use a ****load more, like your back... or your legs....

Can you tell I hate curl jockeys?

BG-150--> EVERYONE should pay attn to what he said. "Pumps are fine but they dont move iron" Nothing more true then that. There are probably 50 ppl on this site who do a fraction of the bicep work that all you curl jockeys do and will totally kick your booty with regards to weight because they are 'smart' about it. And coming from a girl... Nothing looks more silly then a guy with a big chest and arms and no back, or legs.....
