The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Well, I've got good news for you Heroes fans: 6 episodes of a spinoff series titled, "Heroes: Origins" have been ordered by NBC. Apparently it will air at the same time slot as "Heroes", but will begin airing at some point in the future while the current show is on Summer haitus.

Fans will vote for their favorite origin stories/characters, and THOSE characters will then appear in a future season of Heroes.

Can't wait for next week's season-finale. They got back on-track this week after last week's sucky episode.

I still want Hiro to freaking man up finally and do something other than whine about how he's failed his destiny. How do you say "time to grow a pair" in Japanese?

It would be great if it was Ando who saved the day after all this. Sylar goes to defend himself against someone powerful like Peter and Hiro and then THUNK impaled by a guy he dismissed as being inconsequential.

That was a sweet van crash, though. Totally a Magneto move... a casual, nearly contemptuous application of power and over it goes. I was hoping to see him extend a hand and make it stop an inch away from him, but oh well.

Alas poor Ted. I actually liked the guy... he was like Isaac, in that he got a bum rush the entire time, but was slowly coming around.

Best to just not click on the link after it starts in Eastern time. Safest that way. I learned that early on a comic book forum (how the hell they get the scripts like two days early is beyond me).

Yeah tonight's was decent. I don't like how Claire's 'dad' put the gun to the girl's head like 40 minutes into the show and they didn't show that situation again until the preview for next episode.

Man, it just occurred to me - this show has an AWFUL lot of killing for a prime-time show aimed (at least partially) at children and pre-teens. Heck, think about it. In tonight's episode alone, Ted gets his head cut open and Mr. Bennett just aces some guy with a bullet to the dome. Later, DL gets shot, but not before ripping out someone's brain??

It's not even the "cartoon violence" we might expect from a superhero franchise like X-Men, either. These are very direct and very real bullet wounds - stuff like this would have NEVER appeared on prime-time TV about 10 years ago.

    McIrish -

    I for one, welcome it.

We got a close CLOSE CLOSEUP of Ted's head getting cut open. That was gross. But oh so satisfying.

You really think it targets such a young audience? I think it's too confusing for most kids... I bet the average viewer is 18.

Comics aren't particulary for children. It can never be said enough. People die. People die VIOLENTLY. Hell, Batman used to gun people down back when he first started in the 30s before they decided it would be more unique to have a detective that *didn't* use a gun at the climax of a story.

Things were only really fuzzy shiny happy nobody gets hurt (much) during the 60s. The late 70s saw a backlash and a creation of a ton of 'heroes' like Punisher and Wolverine, both of whom will kill a 'villain' just as quick as look at them. The 80s were filled with such things as Joker beating a tied up Robin to death with a lead pipe. The 90s saw Batman's back broken by Bane, and his stand in, Azreal, killed everyone while wearing the cowl.

I'm glad to see Heroes being more faithful to the genre than any other live action abomination anyone has ever tried.

Yeah, "being faithful to the genre" is one thing, but you can't argue that a show that airs at 8 p.m. on a major network is going to have a large viewing audience under 15 years old. I'm not saying it's reaching for the 6-8 year old "Nick at Nite" vote, but this is objectively very gory material for a prime-time show that WILL be watching by any number of 10-12 year olds. I just felt the nonchalant way they whip out guns and mow each other down is a little over the top for their time slot, ya know?

It airs at 9pm. I wasn't allowed to watch Television until I was 16 so I can't really speak about how it affects younger kids.

I think the obvious solution then is to move all children to the eastern time zone.

Season finale tonight! 1 hours and 20 minutes to go.

(Actually, it's playing now on my local station but I'm resisting the urge to flip to it. I'll watch it on NBC with everyone else.)
