So how much do you chaps dip then?

I just want to get an idea of the general standards with dips. I just started doing them a month ago, and they have helped me gain back a lot of the upper body mass I lost during a five month lay off. I can confidently say that dips are one of the finest push exercises out there.

Anyway today I was doing BW (180lbs) + 70lbs for 5 x 5. This feels like a lot, as my friends can only seem to do them BW. I can see it increasing steadily for the next few weeks as well. Interestingly this is a good 20lbs more than what I could do with bench back in my benching prime (about 240lbs for 5 x 5). I've actually dropped bench all together now.

So I was just wandering how much others dip.

you put yours and i put mine
and we can dip down low and roll and grind

But seriously.... I thought there were a few threads out there that got into this. I don't know what my max is, but I do sets of 5 at around +45.

My 1RM was +145 lbs at a BW of 142 lbs.
I should start doing them again, but the bars that they have at the gym are terrible. 45s smash against some stupid crossbar and throw everything off.

when i was doing dipping i was going over 100lbs routinely, weighing about 160~. I found I was quicker adding weight here than on other lifts, and actually didn't like having that big of a dumbbell hanging from my waist (our dip station is awkward getting off of, adn after a hard set I didn't feel too safe having to get down with that much weight on my back)

When I had access to a belt, I was doing +45-55. Now I don't have a belt so I just do more volume or concentrate on other presses. I need to find a belt so I can get back to weighted dips as they rock.

I'm about 35 lbs. from doing BW dips if that's any help. I do them on the assisted dip machine -- stage 7/8. Three years ago I could barely do stage 20, so it's been quite a change.

    iv'e done, @192, +90 for 3x10 pretty good

I can not imagine adding much more to it though, that was really a pain in the ass

though I imagine I could probably add at least another 45lb plate, and do a few if I really wanted to, but double body weight dip...hmm...that would be beast

now I only do dips as my last exercise for triceps, and do anywhere from 25-30 before I puss out, @205

This is a little off topic, but whenever I do dips, it kills my shoulders, mostly my left one. I can't figure out why. Is it just bad form or what?

Right now I'm repping out +45 lbs. 3 x 6 (Going for 3 x 8 next week). About 1-2 months ago I was up to repping out 70 lbs. for working sets (4-6 reps) but I had to stop lifting for about a month.

I'm 178 pounds, and I dip with a plate ATM. Well, I did. Now I don't have a belt to wear since I lost a lot of stuff when I moved, so I'm just doing my bodyweight for a few sets until I feel I've had a sufficient workout.
