Dip Belt - Question before I go buy a chain

I just got my Dip Belt yesterday, but I think the chain isn't long enough. I plan on using for my dips and pull ups.

I can't remember the last time I used one (over 15 years) but, I'm assuming this is how it works?

Starting on the LEFT side of the belt, attach the clip. Feed the chain through right side of belt, then down though the center of the plate, and returning to the left side and attaching the 2nd clip. My reasoning for this, is so that the weight of the plate cinches the belt tight around me. Leaving the plate to hang between my knees.

If I am correct, then there is no way the chain that came with it will work and I'll have to go buy one about twice as long. Unless I plan on using 10lb plates tuttut

What is the length of the chain (in a quantifiable unit)?

Hmmm, I don't have it with me; maybe 2.5-3 feet. I'm not sure why that info would be needed though, unless the way I posted is the wrong way to use the belt. If I am right, a 45lb plate would be right on top of my crotch.

i did it that way for a long time, but anything bigger than a 25 gets up close and personal with the boys. i saw a guy much bigger than me doing pullups with 135 hanging from it with the chain hooked to each loop. i have started doing it that way and all is well. it doesn't cinch up, but it isn't going anywhere. i think if you have any butt at all, you should be fine.
