The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Take a martial art. They will teach you.

Most of the problem with punching strength is accuracy. You're focused on hitting a specific point and you lose speed and strength because you're focused on that one point. Once you learn to hit accurately you can really start hitting harder.

Isn't it a simple physics formula. Something like the bigger and faster you are the harder you hit. So maybe get bigger and faster. Hold a roll of quarters in your hand when you punch someone, packs a wallop.

like billthebuthcer said get bigger, faster and stronger - also punch with your whole body not just your arm
Way down this road, in a gym far away, a young man was once heard to say, "I've repped high and I've repped low, No matter what I do my legs won't grow."

He tried leg extensions, leg curls, and leg presses, too. Trying to cheat these sissy workouts he'd do. From the corner of the gym where the big men train, Through a cloud of chalk and the midst of pain.

Where the big iron rides high and threatens lives, Where the noise is made with big forty fives. A deep voice bellowed as he wrapped his knees, A very big man with legs like trees.

Laughing as he snatched another plate from the stack, Chalking his hands and monstrous back, Said "Boy stop lying and don't say you've forgotten, Trouble with you is you ain't been SQUATTIN"

i just watched rocky 4 last night! but on a serious note do a 5 by 5 routine and hit the heavy bag and have someone teach you proper technique or you'll break your hand or wrist or both. the best way is to learn how to box. i hit the bag harder every time i get into the gym.

    That's a good idea.

    aside from technique

punching power is kind of an innate thing

stronger doesn't always equate to punching power

a good deal of the pure punchers in boxing are tall & skinny

true, but if you have the proper technique you can learn how to try and stab someone more or less by using your weight in conjunction with momentum. a punch comes from your feet, then your calves, then your hips, then your back/core and then, your shoulder. i think of my arms as being locked into a 90 deg angle when i throw hooks.........it really helps you hit right, and when you hit right you feel it and hear the POP when you hit the bag. but stronger in the core etc. will equate to punching power, so does weight, this is only when you punch properly....

    why i said "technique aside"

when you look at pro boxing, where you can assume the guys have done the gym work and mastered technique, pure punching power is usually a natural ability

tommy hearns was a puncher, frank bruno was not

shoot, genetics also come into play, ya know if you have more fast twitch fibres naturally you're gonna hit harder than someone bigger with more slow twitch fibres.

I agree with the boxing thing. I've been in it for 2 years now and I've become hell of a lot stronger. Plus I got boys that most of them weigh 220 and up that I always scrap with so I'm used to harder punches. OH and I almost forgot, add a few shots of goldschlauger and you're Satan in disguise.
