The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

The competition will be how many reps you can get bench pressing however much you weigh. Rules are simpe and are as follow...

    - Shoulders and butt must remain on the bench at all times
    - Feet must remain on the floor at all times
    - The bar must come all the way down and come in contact with your body
    - For the rep to be complete it must come to full lockout position before starting the next rep

I'm sure we all trust one another so videos are not required but it couldn't hurt to get it on tape and i'm sure everyone here would be interested in seeing each others attempts. Theres no real deadline as of yet, i'll wait to see how many participants there are.

I when i train my butt comes off the bench as it keeps the intensity up, it isnt legal for competion.
but when i go for competion i keep it down so its legal, though i cant get as much weight then.

I was bored today, and i was outside in the gym and i thought why not.
I honestly had no idea how many i could get. I assumed between 15-25.

I did a quick warmup, then put my 165 on the bar and repped out 25.
This is not my official result, i just thought i would post before Kevin and Smokin blow me away..
I would have filmed it but it was spare of the moment. I will definately film my official reppage.

Your 155 and bench 320? I would like to see your vids mate. I've seen Kevin's, so i know he is good for it.
If you did 31, that is very well done.

JayTapper is currently in the lead with 31 reps of 155. Just so you know Jay you'll need to get a video by the deadline for your attempt to count if your in the top 3. 320 is extremelly strong at 155 you should get a video.

Would you guys have a problem if I used a single ply shirt to help with my shoulder issue I'm having. Not jacking it or any tricks to add lbs just to support my shoulder it wont add **** to my bench. Let me know if this is possible?
I will vid it if ok'd.

I hate to deny people a chance to participate but whether or not you think it is a bench shirt is very very very very big help. By all means try but i'm not sure I think its fair to have everyone else up against a shirted lifter. Anyone else have any input?

I wouldn't say it's going to be TOO much help. Depending on what shirt it is, he may have trouble getting a lighter weight to touch. Plus, if that **** is super tight, I'd imagine it should be a great "feel good" experience to have to bring it down that many times haha. I could careless either way though. Vids of people training are always cool, so I say let him have at it.

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.

If you really want to I guess, probably gonna be hard to even get the weight to touch though.

It really depends on the shirt. I get EXACTLY zero pounds from a cheap Inzer blast shirt, but that's just me.

I agree w. you though Kevin. Anyway, it's your challenge - you decide!
A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

Actually, looking at those rules, I'm not sure how many times I can bench 175, maybe I should give it a try....I wonder if you can get a breather, I mean, let's say you do 20 strict reps, then you lock out, you are still holding the weight, but you just hold it there for like 5 seconds or something, and try to get some oxygen into your lungs, and then you rep out 5 or ten more non-stop reps, would that be ok?
That's how I used to break personal records in the past..But I must admit I didn't use good form, sometimes I would lift my butt off the bench a bit, I would be explosive and bouncing every rep, I'd be screaming, and not fully locking out, and only locking out to get a breather or on my last rep
My personal records were 405lbs x5 reps, 315x16 or 17 reps, I'm not sure, 365x10 or 11 reps, and 225x32 reps or something, I know it sounds insane, but my form wasn't perfect, as I already mentioned, but I think it was impressive considering I was all natural and I was only about 180-185lbs
I'm not that strong anymore, unfortunetly, but I'm sure I can get that strength back...How many times I could bench 175lbs with keeping my butt down at all times, and locking out everytime, I'm not sure how many I could do it, maybe 25? I'm not sure, I would have to try it
