The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

I used to have that goal, came kinda close but that was when I was younger an cared about how much I can do. I remember I wanted to bench double and curl my body weight. Now I am only concerned with improving how I look first and strength second. I do remember in HS I spotted a freind who was a junior who weighed 150 and he pressed 335 with ease. He was a bench junkie though...I could do more than him on every exercise other than bench.

That would mean I would need to lift 480. I can't even fathom lifting that much at this point. lol

I used to care a lot about bench, but I put it on the backburner for an indefinate period of time while my other lifts catch up.

I'm w/ Kana, the bigger you are the harder it gets... plus, I'm going to use the ultimate excuse... I have long arms 6'5". I'm only 6'1 or 2"... the physics just don't add up very well. I'm not even close to double my weight and I thought I was ok strong.

I might be able to get close to 1.5x.
Double seems like a ways off. I feel like it's attainable though. 350LBs bench... that's a lot of weight.

I doubt I will ever bench 2xbw unless I use gear and I have no intentions on that. As long as I continue to get stronger and chest development keeps improving I am not too concerned with it.

Smokinhawk- what does your squat & deadlift look like?

Smokinhawk- what does your squat & deadlift look like?
my squat and deadlift arnt as good, been trying to get them up to.
most ive ever pulled which was in competition was 370, hoping to hit 405 next february.
squats has been along time since ive done singles, i do 225x10 for reps all the way to the floor, 275x3 all the way to the floor, and have done 315x3 parallel.

your biggest problem is you dont believe you can do it, and wanted it bad enough i garentee you'd get double our bodyweight. Ive never used gear or anyother illegal substance in my life, its definatly possible without it, its all mental....I definatly comend you for not using gear you definatly dont need it.

nope i HATE bench - 2x my bw would be 350 for a chick hum not seeing myself hit that anytime soon - i just want 200- anything over that and im happy : )
Way down this road, in a gym far away, a young man was once heard to say, "I've repped high and I've repped low, No matter what I do my legs won't grow."

He tried leg extensions, leg curls, and leg presses, too. Trying to cheat these sissy workouts he'd do. From the corner of the gym where the big men train, Through a cloud of chalk and the midst of pain.

Where the big iron rides high and threatens lives, Where the noise is made with big forty fives. A deep voice bellowed as he wrapped his knees, A very big man with legs like trees.

Laughing as he snatched another plate from the stack, Chalking his hands and monstrous back, Said "Boy stop lying and don't say you've forgotten, Trouble with you is you ain't been SQUATTIN"

Hawk, you are smokin' something.. b/c you know this is not true. Everyone is different - different genetics - different potential - different goals.

You have a genetic gift Hawk, it's impressive... just don't continue to boast too much about it, it gets annoying.

Don't get me wrong I believe I can do it if that was my intention. It would take some serious training and some time, but we got pleanty of that. If I get there someday great(always planning to improve), if not no sleep lost.
