The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Glove question

I am having troubles lifting heavier weights because of my hands slipping from sweat. My hands sweat more than the average person, from what I've seen with my friends.
The gym I go to specifically says do not use chaulk. Are gloves my next best option for grip, excluding the fact they make it harder to wrap your hand around the bars?

Also, I always get callouses right below my fingers on my palm area, they get painful after holding heavy weights for a certain time (DB shrugs, for example) would gloves help this, or should I just file away the callouses (even though they keep coming back) I realize callouses are common among lifters, but is there a way to slow down there growth?

Searched and nothing really helped, thanks in advance.

the calluses make it hurt less in my experience...the girlfriend isnt too keen on them though

why do gloves restrict you from holding the bar easily?

Ballys. I workout there, they don't allow chalk.

About gloves, I have small hands (stop laughing), and while a lot of people on here seem to feel that gloves would only make holding a bar harder, it has been the opposite for me.

This might be because I don't use typical thick leather weight lifting gloves. I use these gloves (made by a company called Bollinger) that are made out of neoprene, which is the same stuff a wet suit is made out of. It's really thin and it doesn't bunch up or pinch you palm or get in the way or any of the annoying things typical leather gloves tend to do. They are 1000 times better.

I found them in Modell's a few months ago for like $8.00.

Oh, that blows. What is the reason why they don't allow chalk?

My only guess is it can be messy.

Wrist straps help for grip and they're cheap. I personally don't care for them, but they do work.

I never asked why, but I think they don't allow chaulk because it can be messy, and it only takes one inconsiderate person to make a mess and ruin it for all. I don't want to sneak it in, I know the staff there and am friends with them so I don't want to make anyone dislike me... Plus, I have no clue where to buy chaulk in the first place.

I don't know from experience, but I read that gloves, with the padding, make it harder to grip because there is more area between your hand and the bar so the distance you can wrap around is decreased... I will try gloves anyway though.

I guess callouses can make it hurt less since there is dead skin there...but the women tend to dislike this...

How do wrist wraps work? 'Scuse the ignorance of not knowing... Are you talking about the ones that hook onto the bar for heavy lifts, or just something you wrap around?

    Thanks.
    Steve

This will give you a good idea of how a strap works:

(Even though the guys a pansy for using them on pullups, and dumb for using a wide grip behind the head)

Being a strong teenager means nothing.

My wrists hurt, but some people don't have wrists to be sore. My knees have tendinitis, but some people don't have legs to get tendinitis in. I seem to be going backwards with training, yet some people can't even walk let alone lift 400 pounds on a daily basis.

Dust out the vagina, and keep on lifting.
