The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Thank you Hemants, yes I am correct. As to you Powerman, although the temptation to lash out at you and humiliate you is almost uncontrollable, I will suffice it to say that I will leave it up to the reader to make his or her own choice.

No, please lash out. I'm really interested in this, and you both certainly make VERY interesting points, and seem well-versed on the subject. (Nitpicking about physics terms aside) Even if the debate has been done a million times, generally a good debate between two drastically different viewpoints may give everyone something to think about.

    Chris said,
I will suffice it to say that I will leave it up to the reader to make his or her own choice.

In order to make their own choice
the readers need to be presented with more than one point of view.

This a board where people come to read, learn and post their own philosphies and opinions.
One must be prepared to back up these opinions and ideas as, I assure you, there will be many more times that your posts will come under close scrutiny. If you feel confident in your beliefs, then you will have little trouble defending what you believe to be so dear and true.

"Test all things; hold fast what is good.": 1 Thessalonians 5:21

"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

i was thinking about this post for the last few days and have decided to mediate. both styles are correct. HIT and Olympic lifts will produce results, both are valid methods and both can cause injury if done improperly. i agree with the statement that there is no one way to train, everyone will respond differently, i am fortunate enough to respond to most types of training, right now i choose to do HIT for 6 months then i will change to something else. diet is another big issue as is rest. if you follow the basic guidelines then almost any method(i said almost to rule out training everyday, fullbody and such, overtraining)will work. eat right, train intensely, get plenty of rest, take your vitamins and drink your water and you will see results. so, please let's stop this flaming and bickering. both sides have made their point and point well taken.

Carnifax, I haven't reponded because any response I would have made would have been insulting or rude and I really don't feel the need for that. Like I said, make your own choice.

I'm just making the point that Chris hasn't responded to the criticism because he's running scared. I'm sick and tired of people like him preeching at us because he thinks cos he's bigger that makes him more deserving of our respect.

And I just want to say, I'm no gonna take the talking down to that I put up with a year ago. I'm a hell of a lot bigger now than I was a year ago so I deserve respect,

LMAO! good job that you're a lot bigger than you were a year ago. i don't think anyone cares

LOL see how much criticism Chris and others have took in this post, and also how much many have replied already.. ? ?

And I just want to say, I'm no gonna take the talking down to that I put up with a year ago. I'm a hell of a lot bigger now than I was a year ago so I deserve respect/
Carniflex, the reason you get talked down to has nothing to do with your size, but more with you attitude.. We have plenty of beginners on the board who do not act like you. You get talked down to cause you talk like an idiot...

LIke I said in my last post, if I see one more stupid post by you I will ban you.. This is not mm.com and you won't be allowed to mess about and wind people up like you did there... Last chance, DO NOT reply to this, post sensibly, and you will be fine..

Hey Carny, why is it bad that I espouse my bodybuilding ideas here? Do others not do the same thing? If I happen to feel very confident about my ideas, then why does that bother you? One more question, what makes you sure that my detractors are correct and I am wrong?

    Chris,

You definately provide useful ideas here and have a lot of credibility based on your personal experience.

In fact, if you used phrases like "I believe" and "it is my opinion that" then your words would carry even more weight because then we know you are drawing on that experience (and not just something you read).

When you say "this is a fact" or "this is the truth" then it might appear that you are afraid of an alternate opinion, or perhaps a slight variation on your opinion. Friendly debate, I believe, is a good thing if we all want to refine our ideas even further.

There is a fine line between being confident in your views and being arrogant. It is my humble opinion that you have crossed this line on occassion and therefore you message doesn't reach everyone because some people get turned off. And you do want your information to benefit as many people as possible right?

    A wise man once asked:

"If you think you know everything, does that mean you know less than if you know you know nothing?"

    Peace.

Maybe that wise man wasn't so wise....... Call me arrogant if you wish, maybe I am on this subject. Like I have said before, I have been there and done that, and now I know what works best. I also know people are unique, and I am intelligent enough to realize that what works best for me (in a specific sense of particular exercises or stes, reps etc.) may not work best for others. That being said, I have come to realize over the years that the best advice to give people is that which covers the don'ts in bodybuilding. I cannot tell everyone exactly what will work for them, but I can tell them what not to do and give general guidelines of what to do. So, within that framework, I am nearly 100% confident in my advice. Nearly 100%, not 100%.

    Chris,

I and many other appreciate your advice.

The point I was trying to make is that changing how your advice is packaged will allow it to reach more people. Don't you think?
