The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    You should be happy. I would never want to be the strongest person at my gym. The day that happens is the day I need to find a new gym. You should talk to him and ask how he got so strong. Use it as motivation too.

    A buddy of mine at work was benching 405@210(215 maybe). To look at him you would never think it. He has been lifting hard for about 4 years steady. Kinda odd though, his squat was about the same(405).
    FWIW, he has since been on a "cut" and says he feels better now than he ever has. Says he used to stay hurt(torn this, and that) and is now finally seeing the definition in his chest and stomach. He had a lift(at roxboro nc) where he got 385@185.
    Sorry, I know this is kinda off-topic but seeing the number 405 made me remember this

    There are quite a few powerlifters that go to the golds I do, it is humble pie. One guy is around 250lbs and hits 15 reps of 225,315,405. He makes it look easy. Best way to describe him is he looks like a NFL linebacker, crazy strong big 3. Squat and dead I don't know but he always has atleast 4 plates per side on em. And he is a nice guy who will stop and talk as long as ya catch him between excercises.

    I've seen 308 x 10 on bench, I've been the biggest full squatter in a gym so far, and I've seen 550 x 12 deadlifted by a little guy around 5'6" 170-180lbs hard.

    Of course then there is the internet, where everyone excells at everything your good and at, and then sh^ts all over you.

    I've hit 405x5 raw on bench, I thought I was big and bad until I saw this guy come in one day and rep 495 a few times. Quite humbling.

    There are 4 guys on my PL team than can bench over 405 raw. One of them can do 500. 405 isn't that big a deal for big guys who've been lifting a long time. That would be a warmup to most of those Westside boys.

    These are the best I've ever done, all raw:

    405x3 --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKpEqGgz8Ls
    yes, I know my calves suck

    435x1 at comp. --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kYwR62y0Vs

    315x10 --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woH8tyLLf5E
    (vid cut out last rep)

    455x1 board press --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hY6-nKytFG8

    455x1 dead press --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhZn1hJTKcM

    Although, I'm proud of those lifts they're pretty standard lifts for someone who has lifted for ten plus years.
    The guy who beat me in that comp benched 525 raw in the 275 weight class. I've seen quite a few people in lighter weight classes rep my max.

    You guys go to some pretty lame gyms, if 1 set of 345 was amazing...I did that in 11th grade lol

    There is a cop at my gym who does 495 (5 plates each side) for a clean 8 reps.

    I've seen plenty of crazy stuff, I saw this huge, arrogant guy bench press 495 for a single, by himself, with no spotter, he did like 5 sets of singles with this weight. I saw a huge steroid guy bench 405 for like 10 reps or something...with a reverse grip!..He made it look easy. I saw a big guy, who didn't really look that big to me, bench 455 for 5 reps!...The way I see it, that's glory right there, that's why I love lifting heavy

    You are very strong, and you have very good form. I have a video of me benching 405lbs for 4 reps, but you can see I have bad form, I lift my butt a little..You can also hear me screaming. I lift pretty fast and explosively though. I'm proud to say I was only 180 when I did that. I don't know if I should post that video, should I?
