Low Reps or German Volume Training

What would increase speed more effeciently....Low reps like Olympic Lifting or German Volume Training with Higher reps and more sets?

I would have to say Olympic lifting, but I don't know a lot about GVT. I am not a big fan of real high volume or high reps.

You a powerlifter? With a name like that I just figured. Welcome aboard.

Weight lifting isn't going to do too much to increase speed per se, whether Olympic lifting or otherwise. What type of speed are you talking about? Explosive strength (ability to turn on as many muscle fibers at once as possible) or just speed in a generic sense, like running speed? Speed is primarily skill orientated, by practicing the specific skill you are looking to increase in, you will gradually increase speed. That being said there are certain studies that indicate practicing the Olympic lifts does lend itself to generating greater "explosivity". Plyometrics can also be used but they are highly advanced and high school or even college athletes probably shouldn't be using them yet.

i think snatches are th best for explosive excercise, and it teaches u to control supreme amts of weight and balance them

Lifting heavy weights slowly has been shown to increase explosiveness in the beginning of the race and lifting weights rapidly has been shown to increase speed near the end of the race.

German Volume Training (10x10) is not designed for strength or speed, but for size.
    The weights won't lift themselves.

Lifting weights can and does increase speed.

Explosive strength has two components-- starting strength and acceleration strength. Starting strength is the ability to recruit muscle fibers before the lift begins, and acceleration strength is the ability keep them activated.

This ties in to rate of force development and power output-- both of which are key components to speed, and can be trained by weights.

Hmm... If lifting weights had a direct effect on speed then the stronger a person got relative to their body size, they would be far quicker...this often isn't the case. Skill training is far more important to increasing speed in a particular skill than weight lifting. Take a sprinter who practices the olympic lifts... have that person stop all sprinting training for a month while still lifting weights intensely. They will get stronger during that month but their "speed" during the sprint will be far less than optimal. Take that same person and have then forego weight lifting for a month but maintain regular sprinting workouts, it is unlikely that their time will decrease any appreciable degree relative to what it would had that person maintained the weight lifting and foregone the sprint work.

Lifting weight can have a slight effect on speed due to the factors discussed (ability to fire fast twitch muscle fibers at a greater rate) but the effect is negligable compared to skill training.

My lifts in relation to my body weight are quite high.

Coincidentally, I'm also very fast even without training for it. Certainly I'd be faster if I trained for specificity, or even if I trained more for speed than I do, but it proves the point.
