The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

30 aint so bad. Welcome to the club
This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy - George Bernard Shaw

    Thanks fellas!

I did another upper body session at that gym last week and then I went back yesterday and today. Looked something like this:

    12/28
    Bench

    Bench press(middle finger on rings)

    135x3
    185x3
    205x4x3 sets

    Flat DB press

    70'sx8
    90'sx5
    90'sx6x2 sets

    Pec deck

    2 sets of 15

    Dips

    BWx15x2 sets

    Tricep pushdowns

    3 sets of 12

    Seated DB cleans

    3 sets of 12-15

Nothing special. One thing that sucked is the benches they have are a little low to the ground and the uprights don't really work for me. One is set too high and the other is too low. If I want to bench heavy here I will need to do it in the power rack.

    12/29
    Squat

    Pause squats(raw/no belt/med stance)

    135x3
    185x3
    205x3

These were bothering my hips, even though I wasn't too wide. Decided to stop.

    High bar squats(Narrow/deep)

    135x3
    185x3
    205x3
    225x3

    Plate loaded leg press/squat thing

    3 sets of 5 w/3 plates per side(light)

    Leg curls

    3 sets of 8

    Calf raises

    3 sets of 12

First time doing any squatting in a few weeks. I tried to keep the reps and weight low, so I don't get too sore for work. Once I get a set schedule down I will try and write some kind of plan up to follow.

Tomorrow I will make my final decision to join this gym or not. So far it looks better than the other few I checked out in the area.

I officially joined that gym today as this was the last day of their no sign up fee, no payment til Feb deal. I had checked out a few other places in the area, but I like this one best.

I don't usually do New Year's resolutions, but this year I would like to be more organized...in all aspects of my life. My car is a mess, my bedroom is a mess, I have bills, statements and papers everywhere, my training has been a mess with no set plan, etc. So my goal this weekend is to come up with a training plan to start the new year.

Happy New Year everyone! Be safe!

Nice bench mang!! Do you mean like how to wrap them or do you mean like when to wrap them?

I have been training the past few weeks just trying to get into the swing of things. Starting to feel stronger and I am adjusting better to the new schedule. I slipped at work late last week and hurt my knee. At first I thought I did some real damage, but once the swelling went down my ROM was fine and it just feels a little weak and sore now. I am not going to squat for the next few weeks and see how it feels. Tomorrow I will deadlift, prob out of the rack and see if the knee can handle it. Other than that I am doing 3 upper sessions per week(M,W,F) and I am liking it so far. I will start posting from today's session.

    1/18
    Upper 1

    Flat DB press

    4 warmups

    90'sx9
    80'sx12
    70'sx15

    HS plate loaded lat pulls(UH)

    1 warmup

    180x10
    200x10
    220x7
    200x10

    OH tricep ext(curl bar)

    1 warmup

    70x10x4 sets

    BB curls

    1 warmup

    70x10x2 sets

    1-arm DB side laterals

    15x12
    20x12x2 sets

    Treadmill- 1 mile

I am going to start separating my warmups and worksets so I can keep better track of my volume. Sometimes I just write 4 sets of 12, when maybe one or two sets were just warmups. I feel writing it out this way will help me when I start feeling beat up or overtrained and I will better be able to adjust my volume.

    Tomorrow I will pull.

Pretty decent week of training. I also did 1 to 1 1/2 miles on the treadmill each day. On the OH press I used this bar they have at the gym that is called a T-grip barbell. It basically has two grips welded in a little wider than shoulder width so you can use a neutral grip. I tried it last week for pin presses and decided to try it for overheads. I will prob switch back and forth between that bar and the straight bar.

I have to take a safety/training course at school tomorrow so I will prob train after that and do some more deadlifts. Knee is feeling ok, but definitely can't squat yet.
