The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Squats didn't feel great, but not horrible either. Now that school ended I need to start squatting with my old training partners again so I am going to start to make the trip out to squat on Fridays or Saturdays. Pulls felt strong. I actually can't remember what my best sumo pull in a belt is. I know I pulled 520 and had 540 right near lockout when the plates fell off one time...but those were with a DL bar. This is most likely at least a PR with a regular gym bar.

Sound like a plan - even if you made it out every other week, great headway would still be made.

Absolutely...training with these guys makes a huge difference. Going into a squat set knowing they got your back if you miss just let's you focus on smashing the weight. I can't wait to get back in there with them.

Well I just squatted/pulled. Today I am benching and then going to a BBQ where I plan on drinking approximately infinity beers so I will not be training tomorrow. Fridays or Saturdays would be best for me.

Well, I know you love SQing and DLing multiple times per week, so I doubt that could stop you However, drinking infinity beers and then training at 9am tomorrow, yeah, that could be a problem, LOL

Yea that definitely wasn't gonna happen...this was my bench session from yesterday before I drank like a hobo:

    Bench

    Bench press(pinky on rings)

    220x3x7 sets

I drank a lot of beer at my buddy's Memorial Day BBQ that he's been having forever. Great time with some great friends and man I am feeling it today haha. Back in the gym and to work tomorrow.

Great session and some carb loading. Good to hear you had a solid time and it should re-charge you for the grind.

Chris I gotta say that you have my sincerest admiration for lifting the way you do and being an Iron Worker. I've done structural steel (I was a connector) for 9 years and I'll tell you after 8 10 or 12 hours of hanging iron the last thing I want to do is hit the gym. I own my own company now so its easier.

Hey man, thanks a lot! I just finished school last week! So even though somedays are less demanding than others, you know even as an apprentice some days you just don't stop moving, lifting, etc. all day. So with that combined with school, there were some days I absolutely just wanted to go home and pass out. Luckily I love training so I always just man up and take some caffeine and do what I'm supposed to do. Congrats on starting your own company!

Thanks Chris its been really, really hard. Also it appears you can occasionally drink like an iron worker, which is critical to the trade lol.

Haha, I typically keep that to the weekend, but I like to throw em down every now and then.

On Friday I squatted and pulled. I felt weak and kept both kinda light and then skipped assistance. Took the weekend off after working my last overnight on Friday into Saturday morning. Back in the gym today with the first session where I bumped my bench work sets up 10 lbs. Felt good.

    6/4
    Bench

    Bench press(pinky on rings)

    230x2x8 sets
    180x7x2 sets
    180x6

    Chins(done in between sets)

    BWx8x15 sets

    CSR

    90x10
    115x10
    135x10x3 sets

    H-rolls

    3 sets of 15

    Tricep pushdowns

    3 sets

    BB curls

    1 set

Good session today. Weights moved pretty fast and I did like a million reps of chins haha. Tomorrow I will continue with my deficit pulls looking for a triple with 460 and then probably some light squatting.

So Monday night a few hours after I trained I felt really rundown and my throat started to hurt. I went to bed and when I woke up for work I felt worse. So after work I passed out on my couch for two hours and then went and played a doubleheader in softball. Went to work this morning still feeling rundown, but after work I talked myself into going to the gym to do the session I skipped on Tuesday and somehow I hit a PR!

Nasty pull; conventional is hard enough with no belt off the floor, Lol. Have you have done a deficit pull of 500+ with no belt?

Training for the December meet I pulled 500 for a single with the deadlift bar from the same deficit....but I hitched the lockout. I posted that video. I haven't used a belt on deficit pulls in years.

Felt pretty good today. Yesterday Jon bernor ran a meet and I helped spot/load and judge. It's pretty crazy the shift from mostly equipped lifters to raw lifters we have seen in the past couple of years. I think there was only two lifters out of 20 full meet lifters who wore gear. There was some good lifting. The highlight had to be this 18 year old beast who just walked out and dunked a 750 lb squat in a belt and a pair of sketchers lol. It was sick...but unfortunately he bombed in the deadlift ripping his hand open and losing his grip. Kid is a serious freak.
