The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

My best squat ever without wraps was 365x5, but I weighed between 178-180 at the time and I never went above 365. This is actually the most weight I have squatted without wraps. I had a little left in the tank and I think with a monolift I would be good for 400+ right now. I would like to be in the 460-480 range in wraps at my next meet which isn't until November so I say it is more than possible.

I have to work a 15 hour shift in Brooklyn tonight so I kept the session quick and that is also why I did singles so my legs wouldn't be shot since I will be climbing all over the place tonight as we take down a bridge for the LIRR. Tomorrow I shall sleep!

Sick raw squat! Hasn't even looked like you've been going real heavy lately on squats. 460+ with wraps is prolly there right now, so you'll hit a huge PR in Nov.

If you're not working next Fri night / Sat morning, we should have a few people squatting if you wanna come join in!

My body was definitely screwed up after working that crazy long shift on Friday into Saturday. I ended up being up for about 25 hours straight. On Sunday I slept til 3 pm and then couldn't fall asleep last night so I only slept like 2.5 hrs before getting up early for work. While at work I got a nasty sunburn and also slipped and smashed my thigh on a beam and it's swollen and hurts like hell...so squats and deadlifts should be interesting tomorrow and I also have a double header in softball tomorrow night. Plate=FULL!

Thanks guys! This week was absolutely brutal! I busted my ass all week long at work and the last three days we got hit with our first heat wave of mid/high 90's and nasty humidity. I have nasty sunburn and I was cramping up all week. Just seemed like I couldn't get enough Gatorade/water in my system to fight it off. So today was my first day back in the gym since Monday and I really had no business going, but I wanted to stay on track with my bench cycle.

Went to my buddy's wedding yesterday and got hammered drunk. Today I went to work and we had to leave early because lightning started flashing. I was kinda happy to leave since I wasn't feeling so hot from yesterday. I barely ate anything yesterday and with all that I drank it wasn't sitting too well lol.

So even with all that, after I did my scheduled 6 triples with 230, I decided to do 4 progressively heavier, pre-exhausted singles instead of the two doubles I was supposed to do. I figured if I could hit a decent weight after all that, then I would be confident in this program. I was kinda worried that for the last 7 weeks I have not put a heavier weight than 230 in my hands once. Considering my best all time is 275 and I did 270 after all that weighing only 163, I think I'll continue the program. One day I will bench 300+...one day.

Hopefully it won't take me another 10 years to get there lol.

    405x8(PR/tap and go)

Tried for a 10 lb PR since I was supposed to do it last week, but had to skip it. I was really feeling beat up from work coming in, but I just wanted to give it a shot since it was the end of this deficit cycle. I actually slammed it off the ground and when it got above my knees I started shaking violently like an infant version of Chuck V....only when he does it he locks it out and starts yelling at everyone. I apparently am more of a pussy lol. So I got angry and even though I knew I'd forget it the next few days at work, I pulled a 1 rep PR with 405 from the deficit although this was the first time I tried them tap and go so it's only really a technical PR.

    Neutral grip lat pulldowns

    4 sets of 8-10

So I am thinking starting this week I need to start heading out to squat/pull at one of the gyms that my old training partners train at on either Friday or Saturday. That way I can go hard and have a few days to recover before work. Any SQ/DL training I do during the week for a while needs to be very easy so I don't get beat up and sore. I am doing way too much jumping up and down off of steel and climbing around to have to be dealing with extra soreness and weakness in my legs/back. I need to be fresh at work so I don't really mess myself up.

Oh and that means back to chains for deadlifts! Chains chains and more chains!!!

This was my last session using 230 for my work sets. It felt mush easier than last session and the weights moved much faster. Yesterday I attempted to do some squatting/pulling, but I felt like trash. Just worked up to a double with 345 in the squat and pulled 315 for 8 singles. I got annoyed so I left and ate Wendy's lol. This coming week I will be backing off on the sq/DL during the week and then I plan to head out to train with the guys on Friday.

Ok so I stuck with the plan on squats by doing speed work and it felt great....then I decided to pull sumo w/25s which I haven't done in ages and just kept going up. 445 was smooth so I thought I had a good shot at 495, but I got stuck just over the knees. Oh well. Next time I get the urge to pull during the week I will choose something else lol. Still need to find some straps if I want to go heavy on the DB rows.

dude i dont know if youre interested but i know there is one big thing that increased my top end pulling power: rack deads from just above the knee (sumo and conventional) for singles....I used to think they didnt translate but I really do think they work!!!
All armies ever to have marched,
All ships ever to have sailed the seas,
    All parliaments that ever sat,
    All kings that ever reigned,
...have not had such a profound influence on the people of this planet
as did this carpenters life! JESUS YOU REIGN!
