The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Deadlift(Belt)

    500x1(Hybrid stance)
    500x1(conv.)

That was it for tonight. Squats felt amazing. I didn't plan on going too heavy tonight since I hit a PR set of 5 last night, but the single with 435 felt easy, so I figured I'd go for a 5 lb PR. 480 felt like I should have doubled it, so everyone said take 500. It went up smooth as hell, completely shocked myself. I was hoping to go for 500 as a third attempt at the meet if all went well. I'm thinking now it can be a second attempt if training continues to go well between now and then.

Definitely the most weight I have ever handled on rows. These aren't super strict rows. I start from the floor, explode up and squeeze at the top, then return to the floor each rep. There's some body English, but its still pretty tight.

This is now the most weight I have ever walked out. I actually feel I had a triple in me, but I was more worried about the walk back in which always sucks and I only had one spotter. It's been about 10 weeks now since I started training like this and I have hit probably in the neighborhood of 20 squat PRs. What have I learned so far? Squat more to squat more. Not sure how I can go back to "regular" training after this.

Knocking out some great numbers in here mate! Hows your training structured at the moment?
    Current 1RM's - Bench 264lbs (Target 308lbs)/Squat 396lbs (Target 352lbs)/
    Deadlift 429lbs (Target 440lbs)
    BIG 3 TOTAL at 220lbs (28% BF) = 1089lbs

Thanks man. I am training Mon-Sat and taking Sundays off. I've messed around with my bench/Deadlift frequency throughout is cycle, but my Squat frequency has remained constant the whole way. It now looks like this:

    Mon- Squat/Bench
    Tue- Squat/Deadlift
    Wed- Squat/Rows
    Thu- Squat/Bench
    Fri- Squat/Deadlift
    Sat- Squat/OH Press

My assistance work consists mostly of Chins, Rear delt work, Tricep ext and curls.

I compete in a belt/wraps. I have been using wraps four days per week and just a belt/sleeves the other two. Right now my minimum weights to hit each session on squat is 405 in belt/sleeves and 435 in wraps. I typically go heavier than the min with wraps, but rarely on the sleeves day. I've been slowly bumping that number up every week lately.

When I competed on 11/17, just about 9 1/2 weeks ago, I hit a slow 450 and got crushed by 465. In the last 7 days I have hit 500x1 in the monolift and now 465x3 and 475x2 with a walkout. The numbers seem to be climbing weekly and I have 4 more weeks to go until my meet. I have also hit all time bench and deadlift PRs this cycle as well.

I have never trained anything like this before in my life. On paper it seems so ridiculous and like nothing good would come from it. I thought I would always be in pain or injured after a short time on this. I'm not going to lie, I have had some pains and soreness, but I actually feel better each squat session like this than squatting twice per week. My technique has been so much more consistent and my confidence under the bar seems to grow every session.

*also, just wanted to add that although my squat Frequency is high, the volume is low. I basically have one "Work set" per session which is in the 1-5 rep range.

Definitely Didnt feel a PR squat was there tonight after going real hard the last two days. I squatted 4 times this week and all 4 were up to a minimum of 465. Deadlifts felt strong though. Next Saturday I would like to give a run at 600 at the Charity Deadlift meet I am doing. My plan is to go 530-575-600. I will prob do my last squat on Thursday and take Friday off. I'll see how the week goes.

I haven't lifted a weight since the end of September and am back down to 151 lbs so i'm sure you'll catch up and pass my bench numbers in no time hah.

Seriously though Chris your progress this cycle has been INSANE. I haven't been training so obviously haven't been posting here in my journal but I have still been checking it every day just to see your sessions, no joke and no homo (i'm married, sorry). I'm in awe of you being able to squat with the frequency you do and not only get stronger but get A LOT stronger. When I do get back on the wagon I intend to get my body prepared first and then try your approach to the squat training at least. Seriously strong stuff in here man, keep it up.

Thats a crazy amount of Squatting, you're a madman but it's obviously paying off! haha

Spent all day yesterday at a meet just watching and helping out a few training partners. It was a long day and I was shot afterwards. Didn't feel great warming up today, but I wanted to go for a small PR since I still thought I had it in me. Just wasn't there today. That is like the first lift I have missed all training cycle, so i guess I can't complain too much. Squats felt pretty good and even as a second movement and walked out I matched my PR triple.

I know it's alaways easy to judge things in hindsight, but maybe it would've been better to add progressively more sessions, instead of going directly for 6?

Maybe you can try this approach after the meet: a deload period where you do 2 squats/week, then a meso with 3 higher volume sessions/week (still going for a heavyish single before the volume work) and then work your way back up to 6 sessions, in time?
Like, 3-5 weeks at 4 sessions, 4-5 at 5, etc...?
In this way, you should be able to reap the full benefits of each added session before going all out.

I will feel it out after this meet. If I do end up with a big PR total and I feel good, I will probably go right back into this type training, but I will probably take it a bit easier for the week or so right after the meet. I also need to decide when my next meet will be and go from there.

I slightly tweaked the method I use for wrapping my knees today and I'm not sure if it was that or what, but I felt strong squatting today. This is 20 more lbs than I have ever attempted to walk out so far and it came up real strong. I felt I could have fought up a double or bumped it up to ~510 or so. I'm competing on Saturday in the Mike Jenkins Deadlift meet so I only wanted to do singles today and not do too much to tax my back. Tomorrow I will bench and then do one last squat. The plan is to rest Friday, but knowing me I'll prob go in and do something and then hopefully I'll be fresh to give a run at 600 on Saturday.
