The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Nice assistance stuff. Do you rep out the weight more for bloodflow and active recovery or do you feel you get anything out of it?

Both. It keeps the weights light enough so I'm not going crazy heavy both bench days. John bernor has been doing that for a long time on his Raw days. He starts the cycle with high reps(15-20) and just works all the lifts up and the reps come down as he gets further into the cycle.

    Speed sq/dl

    Box squat(SSB)

(Warmed up raw on 15" box)

    1@115x3
    1@155x2
    1@205x2

    (Add old Metal briefs/14" box)

    1@245x2
    2@255x2(belt)
    2@275x2
    2@295x2

    (13" box)

    1@255x2
    1@275x2
    1@295x2

    Speed deads(Raw/conventional)
(all sets done with one set of minis on jump stretch platform)

    1@135x2
    1@185x1
    4@225x1(belt)
    2@225x1(added a mat)
    1@225x1(2 mats)
    1@225x1(3 mats...probably ~4.5"-5")

    SLSDL(Raw/no belt)

    1@185x3
    1@225x3
    1@275x5
    1@285x12

    1-arm DB row

    1@070x5
    1@100x5
    1@120x12

    Abs- 3 sets

I actually stuck to my plan. I started off on the box and everything felt pretty easy. I just bumped all the sets up 10 lbs from last week. Then I actually made myself do speed singles on deads. I didn't work up heavy. That is rare for me. The last few sets standing on the mats were a bit harder, but still fast. I have no clue what the bands add, but they were all definitely over 400 at the top and the last few probably mid to high 400's. Next time on the SLSDL I might just work up 5's. The high reps just ruin me for anything else, lol.

    Decline bench

1@135x30 (PR/lol...no clue why I did this...I just kept going)

    CSR- 3 sets of 10....SHOT!

Damn good workout tonight. My goal was just to get some heavy ass weights in my hands since my top end has been so gay. Went with some thug band tension tonight. I'm realy not sure what the bands added, but I figure it had to be like 270+ at lockout. It was pretty nasty. I was real happy to be able to get some good straight weight sets in after too. The bands beat me up good, but I still felt strong. I have no clue what I'm gonna do next week, so we'll see.

BWT- no wonder the shirt felt tight. Got home, took a piss and weighed myself in boxers....166!! The most I have ever weighed. Thank you Burger King!!

    RAW squat day

    Squat(belt only)

I started this workout off with medium stance squats. I did roughly 10-12 sets from the bar up to 235. I felt no consistency in my form. Every rep felt different from the previous one. I got frustrated and after ~2 hours of messing around I decided to go with a wider stance, basically a few inches narrower than my normal/comp stance. These felt much better. So, with the wide stance and belt I did:

    1@195x1
    1@235x1
1@255x8(not too bad...still a bit awkward, but I will work them up from here)

    SSB squats(narrow/ATF/no belt)

    1@065x5
    1@115x3
    1@155x1
    1@155x20(I hate high reps)

    Zerchers off the floor(no belt)

    2@135x3
    1@185x3
    1@225x1

Zerchers(walked out/each rep down to the bottom of the quad...if I had quads)

    1@225x12(totally shot!)

Tonight was interesting. Lots of madness in the gym. Gear whores going RAW, RAW whores in crazy gear. It was nuts. I was getting very annoyed on the squats, but finally found my groove. Next week I will start with the wider stance and be able to work up to my workset much quicker. I'll do these with the old skool progressive overload and see if I can do a few more weeks of 8's before dropping to 5's.

The SSB squats and zerchers just killed me. I could barely walk out the set of zerchers because my legs were so fatigued.

I would much rather squat 500-600+ in gear than do this high rep raw stuff....but I will stick with it and see if it carry's over. I have neglected it for too long. I just hope my legs don't grow to the point where I can't fit in the gear.

Basically, last weeks workout where I basically owned 800+ at lockout. I have been training my strong point for too long. I suck RAW and never train it. I need to bring up my bottom end one way or another. Once I get used to the form, I'll get stronger and hopefully see a carryover. I will of course, have to manage a way to fit some form of gear work in, but I think I will lay off heavy top end stuff for a while since I don't need it right now. I don't have a meet anytime soon, so now is the time to try it.
