The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Thanks everyone...even you chubs.

I just hope I can get the canvas to fit right. Because I think when I do I'll be good for a nice 650-680 squat at my meet. I plan to open with a low 600's squat.

The heavy squats beat me up bad. My wrists were killing me today and I was getting bad tendonitis-type pains in my left arm/shoulder. I was expecting to lift like crap but I did real well. This extra bodyweight has really helped my bench. I'm hitting PRs all over the place. After some big decline PRs, I had a PR bench handoff of 650 as CT destroyed it for 5 reps off the 2-board. Then I just tried to hit everything I could since I knew I'd have 4 days off. It was a good day and now I'll get some good rest. Pretty soon I'll have to drop weight to make 165. Who woulda thought that could happen?

CR... question for you. I'm looking into either bands or chains to use with my squat/dl to work on my sticking points. Which of those two do you prefer? Seems like chains would be easier to control...

Last couple of workout have been huge, squats are nuts though. Great progress in here chris.

For adjustments to the suit, do you do them yourself or go to tailor for them?

    Thanks guys.

Fury- I'm not actually cutting, I was just saying I actually weigh 165 or slightly over now. This will be the first time I actually have to monitor my weight to make 165. I'd suggest getting bands first. I think you can use the bands for more exercises and they would be cheaper than the chains(because of shipping).

Sid- Two people on the team have their own sewing machines now, lol. So they can pimp out all our gear. I really haven't done anything to my stuff yet, but I think I need to.

I came back today. I was gone for 4 days. I went from my normal 6-7 meals a day to around 3 or so. I did no training. I spent most of the time playing card and/or board games with my girlfriend and her grandmother. Needless to say after the flight back, the train ride and than sitting in traffic to get home, I wasn't really "up" for training. I got to the gym 2 hours later than normal. I'm not gonna post the whole workout, just a few lifts.

Tried a new gear combo. Squatted in my DD briefs and my old canvas. I went up to 575x1, straps up no wraps. It felt real light, but I wasn't sure I liked the combo. I took the canvas off and hit 435x3 in the briefs/belt. That set was pretty easy, even after I had to give Bernor a dirty look after the first rep and then I started laughing. I think I was still good for 5 or so. After that I did a few sets each of leg ext, pull thrus and calves.

I'll be back to normal eating now, so Thursday's session should be back to normal weights/volume. I'll weigh myself then too, since I think I lost a few lbs. I also have to deadlift on Friday this week since I am going to a local bench meet....a local bench meet that might have two lifters attempting 1,000+ and someone going for 740+@198. Pretty sick stuff.

Just curious, but what's your raw squat max (belt only), Chris? Do you even do raw squats?

Also, I think you may have told me this before, but I forgot: what kind of briefs do you use? How do you figure out the right size? I'm thinking of getting some. Thanks.

Some amazing sessions in here lately!! Wow!
A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

Thanks guys. All of those guys are disgusting, lol. The 198 lifter has only been shirt benching the last 2 years or so. He came to a meet we ran and benched ~500 with a close grip completely raw@ 198. Chris Taylor got a hold of him and put him in some shirts. A few yars later and he is looking to break the all-time record @198. He is ridiculously jacked up. One of the freakiest looking non-bodybuilders I have ever seen.

The 2 1,000 lb bench attempters will be Mendleson and one of my training partners Glen Russo. Glen benched 850 or 855 in a full meet and missed 900 or 905 by a hair at lockout. He has been focusing on just bench since then and is looking to give something nasty a ride.

Guido- I really don't know it. If you've read back a bit I was trying to get more into Raw squatting. It just really beats up my knees. I'm able to box squat raw without a problem. I'm able to gear squat without knee pain. Once I just free squat raw, my knees ache for days. I was able to do it with a loose knee wrap and it felt pretty good. I'd like to maybe invest in some knee sleeves(like the elbow ones I have) and see if that helps. That being said I think the most I ever even attempted in just a belt is maybe just 325, but that was a while ago.

I have a bunch of different briefs and I am always trying different gear combos. I love the Metal briefs. Over the past few years I had good success with the Metal Pro birefs, Viking briefs and Ace briefs. I also have a pair of Karin Klein DD briefs that I like. I have never used the Inzer Predators, but I never liked Inzer's other briefs. I have training partners who love the Titan Boss briefs too.
