The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

A few yars later and he is looking to break the all-time record @198. He is ridiculously jacked up. One of the freakiest looking non-bodybuilders I have ever seen.

Guido- I really don't know it. If you've read back a bit I was trying to get more into Raw squatting. It just really beats up my knees. I'm able to box squat raw without a problem. I'm able to gear squat without knee pain. Once I just free squat raw, my knees ache for days. I was able to do it with a loose knee wrap and it felt pretty good. I'd like to maybe invest in some knee sleeves(like the elbow ones I have) and see if that helps. That being said I think the most I ever even attempted in just a belt is maybe just 325, but that was a while ago.

I have a bunch of different briefs and I am always trying different gear combos. I love the Metal briefs. Over the past few years I had good success with the Metal Pro birefs, Viking briefs and Ace briefs. I also have a pair of Karin Klein DD briefs that I like. I have never used the Inzer Predators, but I never liked Inzer's other briefs. I have training partners who love the Titan Boss briefs too.
That is crazy. Does that 198 bencher guy have stick legs? I can't imagine anyone who is 198 benching that much without a hugely massive upper body, which is why I wonder how big his legs could be then.

Thanks for the info on the briefs, BTW. I'll be looking into getting a pair.

His upper body is just really freaky! He doesn't squat or deadlift with us, but supposedly he does some of that raw during the week. He doesn't have stick legs, but his upper back, arms and chest are just ridiculous.

My bodybuilder day went well today. I am going to be doing flat bench in place of decline for probably a 5 week cycle and then I'll probably go back to declines. I want to see if I can get up to 265x1 and then 205x10 or so on the 5th week. I didn't do any back work because I will be pulling tomorrow night instead of Saturday. I plan to put on some gear and pull a heavy partial sumo a few inches off the floor. We'll see if that actually happens.

You know who else does a lot of pec deck?... JUSTIN655, THAT'S WHO!!

A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

Pretty sick night tonight! I had planned on working up heavy on the box squats, but it seems the more gear I use with the box and/or SSB, the more it screws me up. I do the best on the box with a semi-loose pair of briefs and a belt. I gave it a shot and decided to shut it down after 425. The pulls went awesome though. We tried a new technique for setting up the straps on my suit and it seemed to work really well. I'll have to try it from off the floor to see if it feels just as good. After all that I completely destroyed my conventional PR. My best ever with 405 was 5 reps. I killed the 8 reps and was able to hold it at the top with no problem after the 8th rep. If I wasn't such a pansy, I may have tried to go for 10, but I was happy with the 8 anyway. Had no time for assistance because the 24 hour gym closes on Friday nights. I'll try and do some lat work tomorrow at the meet if I can sneak it in.

    Thanks guys.

Sid- Yea, I kept the narrower stance. It's the stance I had success with raw and said that I would use in gear. For some reason I was going feet to plates for all my warmups. I started flying up with 550 and lost my balance when the bar cleared my knees. I brought the stance in and destroyed it. I will try that stance the next time I go full range.

The straps we made tight(velcro) and placed them right on the edge of my shoulders(instead of straight up on the traps). I have a problem locking out deadlifts in gear. I usually get stuck the last few inches. With the straps in this position, it seemed to allow me to keep my shoulders back better so I didn't get rounded forward at lockout. We'll see how it works full range though, since that is all that matters.

that's a sick day, Chris... holy **** man. How did the 605 feel in your hands (grip wise)? Great job, if you can budge anywhere near that weight off the ground you're going to be looking a big PR.

I have a question with the sumo pulling, also. When you're fiinishing off the rep (teh lockout), are your legs already locked out or do you have a bend in them and you have to pull against your thighs to lock out? My lockout in the sumo pull is entirely too hard for what it should be (my conv. lockout is stronger) and I pull alot of friction on my legs/arms.

    Thanks guys.

Big- my grip seems to be good enough to hold 600 or so through a full range deadlift. Hopefully I will be good for 550+ at my next meet. My biggest problem has always been the lockout, so I'm hoping the new idea with the straps will help that. I feel like when my deadlift is perfect, everything locks out at the same time. When I get stuck, usually my legs lock and I get forward or rounded at the top. You really have to throw the hips in hard at the top.

Excellent session. I hadn't been in the gym since Friday's squat session. The gym closed early yesterday and I was working, so I had to skip my bench workout. I decided about 5 mins before I left for the gym, that I would squat today, do my shirt bench and all my raw assistance work on Thursday and then squat and pull my heavy work on Friday night. It worked out good. On the raw box work I was slow off the box on the heavy sets(as I always am), but I grinded out some good reps. I used a different box, so I was unsure of the height, but I had someone watch me on 2 plates and then said it was either parallel or a hair below. So I'm assuming it was close to 14". On the high rep set in briefs I was smoking the reps. I think I could do more than 20, but I really was losing feeling all over and pussed out. I'd say some reps were parallel, some were below and some were a little above. I was real happy with that set though and it really kicked my ass.

Hopefully my shirt will hold up on Thursday. If it does I'd like to hit like 325-345 and maybe something heavier.

Raw boxes are looking good. Especially nice set with that 16 repper! You plan to try any other gear with it? I was using my suit straps down with a belt when I did mine... I felt pretty light headed after that. Did you have trouble holding it in place on your back?

Good luck with the shirt benching.
