The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Thanks guys. That pull felt awesome. It felt like more of a grinder than the video showed. I think I have a few more lbs in me and then when I put the suit on things should get interesting.

    Decline press(pinky on rings)

    1@185x5
    1@225x3
    2@245x5

Decline Kaz press(weights listed are added to the smith)

    1@070x12
    1@100x10
    1@110x8
    1@120x7

    Plate loaded lat pull(wide grip)

    1@090x12
    1@135x10
    1@180x5
    1@160x8

    BB rows(overhand/from floor)

    1@135x6
    3@185x10

    Pec deck- 2 sets

    Curls- 4 sets

I switched things up a little this week. It seemed to work pretty well. I brought my grip in a little on the declines and it relieved the wrist pain. I think it might cost me a few reps on the higher rep stuff, but it still felt better. I decided to do some good volume on those and make it the only real pressing movement(the Kaz's are mostly extension anyway). After those I felt much better doing lat work than I normally do when I do them after deadlifts. I'll keep it like this for a while and see how things go.

Since tomorrow is my last squat workout before I go away, I think I'm gonna try for something big.

    No thanks!

I'm thinking I'll work up to a moderate single(~600). Then I'll take the same weight or a small jump and try and get a triple. I just have to decide what gear to use. Decisions, decisions.

Looking forward to hearing the numbers!
A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

    Heavy squat

    Squat(Ace briefs)

    1@135x5
    1@225x3
    1@315x1

(Add DD briefs in place of suit)

    1@435x1
    1@525x1(belt/felt like crap)
    1@545x1(belt tighter/much better)
    1@605x1(self knee wrap)
    1@655x2(Big PR double/Tight knee wrap)

    Leg press(narrow)

    1@180x10
    1@270x10
    1@360x5
    1@450x5
    1@540x5
    1@540x7

Leg ext- 3 sets 10 reps

That's it. Kinda felt like crap today. Keeping the bar tight was rough because I was getting wicked tendonitis-type pains in my right arm. It'll definitely be good for me to have a back-off week while I'm away next week. I was thinking of going 605x1 and then 615x3 for a PR triple, but I figured what the hell, let's go heavy. The first rep of the heavy double was pretty smooth, but the second rep I think the bar rolled because I wasn't sitting back very well. It came up pretty easy, but I know I wasn't too close to depth. I'm gonna try and not squat heavy for a few weeks and try a new gear combo the next time I do.

Two more sessions before I leave. Monday I will do some form of benching, but no shirt work. Tuesday I'll pull, not sure what style. For now, the weekend will be rest....well, work+family party, but no training.

LMAO! If you could see me in person, you'd quickly change your mind. I'm the guy in the gym everyone always says "how the hell does that little guy lift that much??" One of my training partners nicknamed me the janitor before he met me because he thought I looked like the scrawny guy who should be sweeping the floor...and then he watched me squat 600+ and was like WTF???. The nickname stuck though.
