The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Heavy bench

    Bench press

    1@135x3
    1@185x1
    1@225x1

    Add 5-board

    1@225x5
    1@275x3
    1@315x3
    1@345x1

Add Super Phenom(no boards/no reps touched)

    1@325x1
1@365xdump into the uprights near lockout
1@385xmiss(tried to bounce it off my head, but the spotters took it) tuttut

Adjusted the shirt a different way

1@335x3(all reps 1-2" away and all were easy)
1@375x1(~1/2" from touching and went up strong)

That's it. Had to work late today and got to the gym an hour and a half later than normal. I cried like a girl about the shirt because it hurts like hell, lol. My training partners stayed with me and told me all the crap I was doing wrong. I finally think I figured out what will be best for me on the last two sets. I just couldn't get a tight setup and grip on the bar, so I set the shirt a little different and the last two sets felt awesome. Before I use the shirt again, I want to get the sleeves tightened up and then I should be good to go.

On the first sets, we were just pulling the collar down the chest. The chest is so tight though and it was really binding up my shoulders and not letting me get my upper back tight. So I decided to pull the shirt off my shoulders a bit(down the arm) and it aloowed me to setup better and I smoked the next two lifts. You need to have an open back shirt to adjust it this way.

That shirt sounds so damn sexy. When I finally man up and get a 2ply (years from now) the phenom will be a top choice.

Yeah I have a 2ply EHPHD, and that bitch is one crazy shirt. I got more out of it that I did out of a DD. Inzer poly's are definitely my favorites.

Nice shirt work man, you must have long arms to be using the 5-board. The barbell would just rest on top of it with my arms fully extended. 375 is a strong stuff.

    Heavy squat

    Squat(Ace briefs)

    1@325x1

    (Add T-rex straps up)

    1@415x1
    1@505x1(belt/waaay high)

    (Straps down)

    1@505x1(much better)
    1@525x5(knee wraps)

    Leg press(narrow)

    1@180x8
    1@360x5
    1@450x5
    1@450x12

That was it. I was feeling real tired and beat up. My back was not cooperating and I didn't feel it was smart to go too heavy. I decided on trying some reps with a moderate weight. It's technically a PR set of 5, but I have hit 610x3 and 650x2 in similar gear, so I wasn't too excited about it. I may be switching around my training again, big shocker. :alcoholic We'll see this week.

Didn't go too crazy today. I was getting wicked tendonitis pains in my biceps/forearms area and it was really annoying me. I'm going to attempt to keep my squats light this week or even just use the SSB to hopefully let it rest a little bit. I know a lot of the heavy squatting has something to do with the pain. I also have to make sure I eat something before these morning workouts because I woke up late today and just completely forgot to eat.

Tuesday is SQ/DL, but like I said squats will be either light or SSB.

    Thanks guys.

I spent some time today writing out all my heavy/ME workouts for the next 3 months(leading up to IPA Nationals). My tentative plan(if I actually stick with it) will be to go up to Iron Asylum and do their October 13th SSA meet, followed by the IPA Nationals on Novemeber 17th. Now the trick is (this isn't the smartest thing but I don't care because I want to try it) I am going to do the Asylum meet in all single-ply gear(and walk out my squats). So this makes the planning a little more difficult since I need to prepare to be my best in single-ply and multi-ply which are both very, very different. So, if it doesn't kill me, that's the current plan. I need to find a single-ply bench shirt though. I already have something decent to squat and pull in.

These are my pre-training cycle goals:

    SSA Asylum meet- 1400+@165(single-ply)

    IPA Nationals- 1600+@165(multi-ply)

Yes sir, it will be interesting.

First day of the single-ply training cycle(multi-ply will be included certain weeks)

    8/14
    Heavy SQ/DL

Squat(all sets walked out of the monolift)

    Warmed up raw to 195x2

(Single-ply Metal Viking Squatter/belt/straps down all sets)

    1@225x3
    1@285x1
    2@325x5

    Rack deadlifts(Raw-diggity/no belt)
(Performed by unracking off the pins, then having the pins pulled and going down to the floor/all reps touch and go/semi-stiff legged/standing on 1" mat)

    1@135x5
    1@225x3
    1@315x1
    1@405x6(PR/first time trying these)
    1@405x5

Chins/pullups(Less than a minute rest between all sets)

6@BWx5(2 sets wide OH, 2 sets UH, 2 sets neutral)

    Face pulls- 3 sets

    Ghetto-rigged reverse hypers

    1@BWx8
    1@BW+2 minisx10
    1@BW+2 minisx12

Abs(ghetto-rigged on plate loaded lat pull machine)- 3 sets

Sick session tonight. We had a huge crew, so there was tons of weight being thrown around. I was wearing a really loose suit that used to be worn by a training partner who weighed ~195. My plan is to squat in some loose gear for the first few weeks and then pick a suit and pinch it tighter leading up to the meet. Tonight I worked on finding a stance that feels good with the lesser gear. A few inches narrower than my normal comp stance seemed to do the trick(maybe 1.5" per side).

After the squats I got creative and tried some new stuff. I really liked the pulls starting from the top. They totally killed my hams and low back. I have video of the top two sets of that movement, so you can see exactly what I mean. Then we ghetto-rigged some reverse hypers. Those really finished me off, but at the same time made my back feel better.

I'll be doing similar stuff to this on Tuesdays up until the meet and then on Fridays I will do assistance work(box squats, zerchers, leg press, leg ext, etc.)

Thursday is shirt bench and I got my Phenom back after being pinched. So this week it will be multi-ply shirt bench.
