The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Heavy Deadlifts and then some more

Warmed up with SSB box squats raw

    1@155x5
    1@205x5
    1@245x3

Sumo deadlifts(Single-ply hardcore straps down all sets)

    1@225x1
    1@315x1
    1@405x1(belt)
    1@505x1(felt slow and like crap)

Conventional deadlifts(single-ply Fusion/straps up all sets)

    1@315x1
    1@405x1(belt)
    1@505x1(much smoother than sumo)

    Conventional deadlifts(Raw-diggity)

    1@315x1
    1@405x1(belt)
1@455x3(might be a PR/I'm too shot to remember or check)

Zerchers off pins @ knee height

    1@135x2
    1@225x1
    1@315x1
    1@365x1(belt)

    Deadlifts(raw-diggity/no belt/semi-Romanian w/pauses below knee)

    1@225x5
    1@275x5
    1@325x5(tore my hammies up)

    Pull thrus- 3 sets

    Abs- 3 sets

OUCH! That workout kicked my ass all over the place. I have decided to pull conventional in this next meet. In the single-ply gear I have, it just feels better. I pull better sumo in a belt right now than I do in my single-ply suits. The conventional feels real good though. After that I just continued to just beat up my back and hammies. I'll be feeling this session for a few days.

Thursday should be some form of shirt benching supersetted with wicked back cramps.

Thanks guys. After all that my back was sore, but my hamstrings took the brunt of it. This is 3 days later and my hammies were still very sore.

I benched yesterday. It sucked. I felt weak and unmotivated. I went up to 225x2 with a narrow grip. I followed that with 365x1 off a 2-brd in my old DD. I then did DB floor press with 85's for 9 reps which I believe was a PR, but I still sucked. I'm going to have ti figure out a bench plan and actually stick with it. Luckily, today went much better, even with sore hammies.

    9/21
    Heavy squat

High Box squat(~1-2" above parallel/all sets done with one set of Blue/strong bands)

    1@145x1
    1@235x1(single-ply denim briefs)
    1@325x1
1@415x1(added T-rex straps down and belt for all sets)
    1@465x1
    1@505x1
    1@535x1(PR/this is ~700 at lockout)

    Squats(raw-diggity)

    1@135x3
    1@185x1
    1@225x1(belt)
    1@275x8

Short and sweet tonight. I was very happy with this session after yesterday's sucky benching. I felt much better coming into this workout, but my hamstrings were still sore as hell. Luckily it didn't affect me much on the box squats, but I was feeling it on the raw squats so I did one set instead of two.

I am 3 weeks out from my meet right now. I think next week I will put my single-ply suit on again and go up to an opener or slightly heavier. The week after I will probably take it easy.

I'm peeking again, and I like what I see. Gotta watch out for those short, sweet workouts. They can really bite you in the booty.

Thanks everyone. I am going to try and get videos from my meet, although my girlfriend isn't going to make it up to this one. If I don't get video, Sandi and Zane(the meet directors) usually get video of everything on their website.

Hizzle- The single-ply is much less stressful, but when it's tight it is a pain in the ass to get on.

I was up in Buffalo for a wedding this weekend. I flew back in today and went to the gym for a nasty deadlift session.

    9/24
    Heavy deadlift

    SSB Box squats(raw/no belt)

    1@155x5
    1@205x5
    1@245x5

    Partial deadlifts(conventional/plates on 6"blocks/raw)

    1@135x3
    1@225x3
    1@315x1
    1@405x1(belt)
    1@495x1
    1@545x1(PR)
    1@495x3(PR)
    1@405x10(PR)

All the rep sets were done tap and go. These were nasty!

Zerchers off pins(1 pin higher than last week)

    1@135x2
    1@225x1
    1@315x1
    1@385x1(belt)
    1@405x1(PR)

    Romanian-style deadlifts(same as last week)

    1@225x5
    1@275x5
    1@325x5

Wide grip chins- 1 set of 10(just to stretch out my back a bit)

Pull thrus- 3 sets of 10 up to the stack

    Abs- 3 sets

This session was painful. My back is dead right now. The next few days should be interesting. I was just glad to get back in the gym after a long weekend being away.

I'm switching my days up a bit and we'll see how things go for the next few weeks. I'm cutting down to 1 day of benching per week and moving the days around a bit. Monday will be deadlifts, Wed bench, Fri squat and Sunday assistance(but I will stay away from bench movements).

I've been meaning to ask you... why do you warm up with box squats before you deadlift?

I used to always do speed work on the box before I deadlifted. I kinda cut out the speed for now, but I still like to hit some box squats first to warmup my hips, hammies and back. I'm not a big fan of pulling to start my workout.
