The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Great job Chris!!! Single-ply FTW (simply because I can't afford anything, else)! The good thing about all that single-ply training it that it probably built more starting strength to stack on top of your switch back to multi-ply.

The Magnusson's sound like a lot of fun... I will definitely try those in the future... lol.

    Thanks everyone.

Andrew- I always stay with the weight, the spotters just got me back up. It wasn't like a complete blowout, but the suit had been ripping a little bit during warmups. Right before my first attempt I almost took it off, but I said I'd give it a whirl. Right when I hit the hole both legs ripped up a few inches and I just got stuck. I think my head went straight down when it happened as if I was looking to see it, lol.

Stump- the briefs are awesome for single ply. They are Karin's denim. The Inzer groove briefs suck, but in the USPF you can only wear briefs with no legs(like the Inzer groove briefs). I think that Titan might make a better pair that would be legal. What kind of suit are you gonna get to go over them?

Tonight I'm back in the gym to start my new training cycle. My back is still beat up, so I'll probably just ease back in....or maybe not.

    Abs- 3 sets

My back was cranked coming into this session, but I still pushed it pretty hard. I didn't think I'd be able to do all this two days after the meet, but once things got rolling I just kept kicking my ass. The box squats felt good. The doubled bands made it much harder. They keep much better constant tension on the bar, since I take the bar out from a low rack height. I got this suggestion from John Bott, since he had his guys doing these in their squat cycle. I am gonna use it on my deadlift day instead and only use straight weight on my squat days. I will cycle it though and after a few weeks go back to0 straight weight or chains off the box. Next week I'll probably pull against bands after the box work.

I am going to bench Thursday this week so I will have two full days rest before it. I have decided to run my bench program very much like the Asylum bench routine. I figure I have nothing to lose and they are all getting great results from it.

This training cycle is gonna be sick.

Thanks guys. I was still feeling that workout today even after 2 full days of rest!

    10/18
    Heavy bench

    Bench press

    1@135x3
    1@185x3
    1@200x3
    1@215x3

    Asylum boards(2-3-4)

    1@185x5,5,5

    1@275x1(off 4-brd)

    Shirt work(Phenom)

    1@315x3(third rep skimmed)
    1@335x3(touched 3rd rep)
    1@350x3(PR/touched last 2 reps)

    Flat DB press

    1@60'sx5
    1@85'sx10
    2@90'sx6

Awesome night tonight. I started my new bench routine tonight which is basically copying the Asylum bench routine. In the start of their bench cycle they do raw paused bench also, but I decided to go right into the shirt work off the bat. I did some dumbells at the end to keep some raw work in. I actually felt real weak warming up and my raw stuff felt heavier than usual. That makes me feel even better about hitting a big PR in the shirt. I tried to use the different tecnhique in the shirt that Zane, Sandi and Joe C. were explaining to me and it worked well. The 315 set was awkward, but the next two triples felt great. I'm actually excited about my bench program for once.

Tomorrow is squats and I'm thinking about trying something fairly gangsta if my back will hold up. We shall see.

Oh yea. After I benched and the later crew started showing up I hit an all time ATF squat PR with the deadlift bar(someone had the deadlift bar up on the squat stands). 95 lbs with no hands on the bar. I think that might be my new weirdo exercise when I hang out in the gym too long. It beats the hell out of 1 arm DB clean and jerks.

    Thanks fellas.

LK- Basically you work up raw triples. Then you move to board work. One week you do a 2-3-4 brd set and the next week 3-4-5. All done as one bigset with 5 reps per board. After that they do shirt work(lots of times triples and doubles). Every other week after that they do lockouts. Very simple, but effective. As the meet gets closer they do the shirt work before the boards.

    10/19
    Heavy squat

    Squat(1-ply denim briefs)

    1@235x3
    1@345x1
    1@435x1(Inzer T-rex straps up)
    2@525x1(belt/both felt like crap)
    1@485x1(straps down)
    1@505x6(straps down/wraps)

    Squat(raw/no belt)

    1@135x3
    1@225x3
    1@225x12

Plate loaded lat pull- 3 sets of 10

Wide grip chins- 1 set of 12

I felt like crap all day today. My shoulders and pecs were sore as hell. It was very uncomfortable setting up in the squat. The sets with the straps up were the worst on my shoulders, so I did my work set straps down. I wanted to do more reps with 505, but my groove was all over the place and I have never done that many reps with it so it is technically some kind of PR, but nothing to get excited about. Over the next week or so I'd like to come up with some sort of squat plan because right now I have no idea what I want to do. I'll definitely have to ease back in to the Multi-ply because it felt much different.

I'll probably take the whole weekend off and then beat the crap out of my back on Monday.
