The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Thanks Sid. The squat work set was done in multi-ply though. I had on single-ply briefs w/ a double-ply suit. My whole body is beat up right now. It hurts.

Just had my first session in briefs. Metal Pros. All I can say is damn. I dunno how you do it with briefs and a suit.

Figured you'd probably see this before you looked at my journal again. Is it normal for the briefs to get so tight that it feels like I'm pulling something? I figured the pinching and cutting would be there, but on the 265 rep, the briefs started biting so hard that all of the sudden it felt like I pulled something. There was a tremendous amount of pressure.

Fuck, fight, or hold the light.

Apparently you can get a lot done when you are in the gym for over 5 hours. Today was a good day. I got a lot done and now I get to rest the next two days. The suit felt great to pull in, but it was a pain in the ass to get off. I may try a different suit next time.

Yea, that's pretty much it. But I have a great time hanging out with everyone there. 6 hours tonight.

    Floor lockouts

    1@315x3
    1@365x2

I'm very excited about hitting a PR tonight because I felt like absolute crap. I didn't get much sleep last night and kinda felt weak all day. I felt like I was gonna pass out on a few different reps, but somehow I managed to squeeze out a PR. This just tells me that on a day that I come in feeling strong I should be hitting some real good numbers. I wanted to do lockouts right after the shirt work, but the rack was taken. I did some 5 boards for a while and then did a few lockouts. My wrists had pretty much quit on me by the time I got to 5 boards, so I didn't have much left. Next week I will stay out of the shirt and just work some raw stuff. I'm going to try(if I can stick with it) to do 2 weeks in the shirt and one week out. We'll see if it works.

I haven't been highlighting any of my training partners freaky lifting recently. I should start that back up. Tonight, there was a bunch of big lifts, but the one that just boggles the mind was from big John Bernor. He's been messing around with single-ply for the past few months. He then decided a few weeks ago that he wanted to go back to multi-ply. This is only about his third workout back in the canvas and he hit a strong double with 1055!! It was just nasty. He said he was doing a single and after he came up with the first one he yelled that he wanted one more and he dipped down and smoked it. FREAKY!

1005 for a double is just plain ill. Also, you're making me want to go multi-ply. With my current shoulder, it's looking more and more like I will go muti-ply very soon.

Thanks guys. Yes, that was a squat. I don't think anyone actually knows how strong he is. We always want him to put more weight on the bar, but he really doesn't max out. He just steadily bumps up his PR's little by little. I have no doubt in me that if he stays healthy he will squat 1200+ in a meet.

From what I have heard John Bernor is a freak, glad he is putting up some scary ass numbers again.

    Thanks peeps.

    Raw sq/dl

    Squat(raw)

    1@135x3
    1@185x3
    1@225x3
    1@275x3(belt)
    1@275x5

CR Gangsta Rack pulls from below the knee cap(and by Gangsta I really mean stupid/raw/belt)
(All sets done with a quadrupled mini band off the Jumpstretch platform and standing on 2 hundreds for an extra 5" of tension or so)
(These sets were done with the SSB on my back weighing 155 lbs total)

    1@135x2(ouch)
    1@185x1(second rep wouldn't budge)

Expermiment over. Those are ridiculously hard and one of the dumbest things I have ever tried. Good times.

(No SSB from here, but everything else set the same way)

    1@225x2
    1@275x2
    1@315x2
1@365x1(this felt like a million lbs/it was probably a little less)
    3@315x2

Plate loaded lat pulldowns- 4 sets of 10

I still felt like crap today. The good idea would have been to rest. My idea, however, was to try the hardest possible exercise I could create. My legs and back are smoked. My hands feel like someone used a cheese grater on them. Bands always suck on my hands. I have no idea what the bands add on that movement, but it felt much heavier than just standing on the jumpstretch without the 100's on there. It had to be in the neighborhood of 300+ lbs at lockout.

The goal for the next few days is to try not to move too much. I plan to be plenty sore.

As of yesterday I wasn't going to train today. I had a nasty cold and felt like crap. I gotta say that Airborne really works. I loaded up on that stuff yesterday and this morning and by the time I got to the gym I felt great. I decided to use the straight bar and work up heavy on the box. Things went really well. I haven't gone over 600 with straight weight in forever and today I handled it well. I think I had 700 in me off that box. That is the heaviest weight I have ever handled without knee wraps. I think I will do something similar to this every third or fourth week. Something maybe like:

    Wk 1: speed w/bands
    Wk 2: speed w/bands
    Wk 3: work up heavy
Wk 4: back to speed or deload straight wt.

I'll see if I can stick to that.

Thanks and yes. It's actually a very nasty combo for me. I think I can squat more like that than in any other brief/suit combo I have.

I wouldn't do that Stump. I would just squat as low as you can get while keeping your form and then come up. Add weight and repeat. It's a better way to learn the groove of the suit and to get comfortable with free squats in gear.
