    Felt awesome to be back in the gym tonight. One of these days I will bring my tape measure to the gym to measure our boxes. I think the box height I used tonight was between 14"-15". I don't think I have ever done 385 in just a belt with the SSb though, so that was probably a PR. I think I did 380 one time as my best. The deadlifts felt better than I expected. I suck pulling from that position and I had no baby powder on my thighs which really helps my lockout when I go heavy.


    I started my new sq/dl program tonight. I will be running a Westside-style squat cycle on Fridays, with some heavy band training on the box. Mondays will typically be a heavy SSB squat raw, some heavy pulling raw and/or maybe even a goodmorning. I think I am going to bring back a second bench day(Sunday), but will just stick with some lighter tricep/delt movements. Adding them to Monday's session makes it too long and holds me back from my other assistance work.

    I am also trying to gain about 10 lbs before this meet so we'll see how that goes.

    That was that. I'm staying away from full range work until my rotator feels better. So far high boards and lockouts seem like all that feels good. I'm gonna try and just do as much tricep volume with movements that don't hurt it. Hopefully as I get closer to the meet I will be able to go full range in the shirt without pain. The one positive about tonight is that all the weights felt great in my hands. No wrist pain and nothing felt heavy.


    Tomorrow I start my band cycle on squats. Hopefully my shoulder will be able to handle that.

    i've used knock off brand bands that my gym has. i've got minis, lights, average, and strongs coming my way.

    Had a good time in the gym tonight. I felt like crap all day today. I had a hectic day at work. I only ate once while I was at work instead of three times like I normally do. I got out late, so I got to the gym an hour late. This was the workout I was looking forward to the most though, so I wasn't gonna skip it. I really didn't know what weight I wanted to use on the box squats. I went to do 285 with both bands for a double. The first rep felt way too slow, so on the way up with the second I threw my hips in real hard. Unfortunately, they flew out in front of the bar and the bar went flying off my back. Luckily it didn't land on anybody and somehow I didn't break my back or rip my arms off. I decided to take the weight back down to 235 and all the sets felt real good. I hadn't done box squats w/bands and the straight bar in so long that I really just had to feel them out. Next week I should have a much better idea coming in what to expect.

    After that I used chains on the deadlift for the first time. I really liked them. My hamstrings were torn up after those. I'm gonna try and work them in a few times during this cycle.

    Since I know this day is going to end up getting pretty taxing and heavy often through this cycle, I'm gonna have to be careful about Monday's sessions. I may have to keep it as more of an assistance day and not crazy heavy. We shall see.

    It looks like it could very well be a taxing day. If it's a "accessory day" I would keep it light too. But then again you know your body and have years of experience over me.

    On Saturday my girlfriend's father passed away(heart attack). He was a great man and my girlfriend and her family are just devastated. I spent a week upstate with her and her family. I came back home today. After 7 hours on the train, I decided to go back to the gym and see my friends.

    My warmups felt like crap. This week was very tough. I lost a few lbs and my head was all over the place. Once I got focused, my work sets went well and had good speed. That's more than I expected. I ran out of time since I got to the gym late. On Sunday I will catch up with more assistance work. Then I'll take off for Christmas and go back to the gym on Thursday and Friday.

    They almost always use gear on DE day. All that box squatting would destroy your hips without briefs on. Plus, raw I would be using much less than my comp squat poundages and it really wouldn't carryover.

    It's been a while. I've been sick for a while. Didn't go to the gym. Then my team moved all of the equipment out of the gym and into a new facility. They are doing a bunch of renovations on it, but should be open to the public in a month or so. It will be the real East End Barbell and the first meet will be run there in March. Very exciting. No more heavy training in a lame commercial gym. I did a very light upper body day yesterday, just to really try and do some work on my crappy shoulder. Today I went to the new gym for my first real workout in two weeks.

    Felt good for my first time back. It was great just to see everyone again and get to train in the new place. It's real gangsta right now because the floors are bare and have spray paint all over them. The walls just have spackel everywhere. It rocks. I plan to be back to some form of normal training from now on. My shoulder will limit my benching for now, but I'll keep trying to strengthen it while I do what I can. If it doesn't get better I will see a doctor.

    Squatting went better than expected tonight. I hadn't free squatted in over a month and wasn't sure how I'd feel. I tried a different combo and it felt pretty good. If I am going to do the meet I need to start pushing my squat up quickly over the next few weeks, so I should be putting on knee wraps and going over 600 next week.
